Are the animals that are committing the violent murders in N.O. going to put their guns down if and when these are removed? If so, I'm all for it. If not, the removal of these do nothing except take away from the history that is N.O. and the deep south. You can remove all the statues and textbooks you want, the history of this country is the history of this country. Don't like it, leave. Whether you agreed with the ways and acts of those times is irrelevant to the conversation. It's about the history and preserving it for future generations to look back on and learn from.

Yeah, I went back and reread what I wrote and it's not quite what I meant. Didn't mean to say that they're locked into executing the project with the bid they've got now. Meant to say that without starting all over with the bid process, they are.
Correct.
Although it sounds like the bid was in parts, and it was $600K for three statues, so they could accept the portion of the bid that they have funding for. They could also work out a contemporaneous change order prior to accepting for a lower price.

I wonder how much this cost:
A few trillion, actually.

What does that mean to you?
It means only one bidder submitted a bid.
Is that a trick question?

Might be the best pic response to a topic on the OT that I can remember. Well played sir.

Does this mean I wasn't actually a contrarian piece of shite and not an adult?

Only one bidder has submitted a proposal to take down three Confederate monuments in New Orleans and is asking more than three times the amount the city has budgeted for the project.
What does that mean to you? If the bidding was over, the correct and very normal way to say it would of been "only one bid was submitted".
There's a deadline to submit sealed bids.
Once that deadline has passed, the bids are unsealed. If there was only one bid submitted before the deadline, then so be it.

Not sure but I know that overthrowing a dictatorship is more than 600k
Yeah, I thought about that but I'm just talking about the specific job. Nobody there was paid anything extra (beyond normal pay and combat entitlements) and the equipment was readily available. I was in Iraq at that time. It didn't make a damn whether I was filling sandbags, burning shite, or tearing down a statue. I was already there and the pay was the same.

Actually NOLA has plenty of money. They may not spend it wisely but this city is far from broke.

Hell, you could drive one from B'ham for 600,000. Pit-stop in Tuscaloosa with a dump truck, to hid the Saban statue in, and do a quick swap. There'd be no ugly base and everybody would be pissed, not just the Lee haters. Although might have to drive back through Memphis.
So what if it cost 300 of the 600. It'd help make up for the trees.

I hope the bid spec required the statues and bases come down without damage because they are a valuable part of history and the "replacement costs" are going to be extreme . We dont need no hook and go.
These pieces of history may end back right where they belong one day.

Pretty sure Mitch's intention here is not to remember history. Quite the opposite.
If all goes well with this they'll be "accidently" dropped or demolished. Even then the statues are property of the city, and the city can do with it as they please- as ill advised or destructive as it may be.

I don't know much about these statues as far as weight or location specifics, but lets just say it takes a full 40hr week to do this with 1 250T truck crane with 1 operator and 2 riggers plus all the necessary trucks for counter weights, statue transportation, etc etc
This could be probably done for sub 60k

My question is: Who owns the statues? If the city did not pay for them, the owners should be able to recover damages should they occurr.
