Incredibly simplistic statement.
As simple minded as believing the north fought to release slaves.
As pointed out, the % of slave owners was very very small. In addition, slavery was breaking down in the south already.

am I the only 1 looking at the pic and saying... wait, 2 of the chicks in that pic are black?

ETA: also... Lincoln putting an iron fist around Maryland... which may have very well been about to secede... thus surrounding DC by Confederate states

I personally think the racial connotations associated with the Confederate Flag is overblown.
I agree, but the narrative about the flag has already been set.....the KKK and the Confederate Flag will forever be joined at the hip.

Personally, I think it's a good looking flag and represents "southern pride", but I will never fly one nor display one because, regardless of what it means to me, it represents hate and racism to most.

You can't have it both ways...either people have a right to express or they don't...whether I agree or disagree with the speech/content is another matter.

Of course, but the OP is presenting this story as if the kids are being prevented from doing this. They have a right to display the flag and hold their guns, and people have a right to voice their disapproval.

The OP doesn't seem to know the difference between opposing an idea and silencing an idea.

So the flag has been used throughout history to represent different things. In todays society it is used as a symbol for self identifying rednecks. Sure, some still fly it as "southern pride", and some use it as a symbol of their bigotry. The overwhelming majority are rednecks that just need a symbol.

That is a great statement and a major problem in our society in so many areas.

No you don't get it. I do believe that El Gaucho was the one to initially play the race card with this:

I flew a Virginia State flag....often associated with the Tea Party and got ripped by one of our neighbors...called me a traitor...he is one of our more enlightened local university professors...told him he needed to be careful, very careful, because if my speech can be squelched then so can his

I don't think anyone here is butthurt

I mean, if you want to pose outside your trailer with it or have it flapping from the back of your mud covered 'Yota down the road, that's cool with me. But don't cry "butthurt" when someone points and laughs at you
