And I was a huge YC fan, but that's because we used it enough to have cabbies who recognized the name. That's not the case anymore, so it is much harder.

When I was in BR, I had several yellow cab drivers in my phone and I was a fan of using them. I would call and request one of them for bogies at 1:50 and I would have a ride by 2:00 or 2:05 at the latest and I always tipped well. However, if I had to call YC, complete opposite.

They are still new to the market and want to keep that clean image. That's why they refunded you. This is just the beginning of the problems we will see with this service.

Oh wtf ever tigerwise. 99% of the time Uber is a steal. The 1% of the time it surges still makes it a great deal.

I drive part time on weekend nights. Canceling doesn't create surge. Demand increases surge. No one makes you take a ride during surge. I had a girl curse me out Friday night because her ride from tiger land to hundred oaks area was $72 lol

Really. Can you explain my $23-26 cab ride as opposed to $15 cab ride? I mean it was Friday afternoon at 6, so maybe a surge price was in effect, but I had no issue getting a yellow cab.

I got a 6x surge price on Friday night around 3 AM. The email with the bill the next day wasn't very fun to look at.

7 miles and $120 I made it home safely though

Yup. I used Uber 3 times on Saturday night in Nashville. All three of the rides were $5-6/each. Money well spent and no surge pricing.

Melrose -> Farmers Market -> Flying Saucer -> Melrose (for those familiar with the area)

That's just an absurd price to pay for less than 5 miles.

But cancelling rides postpones and increases demand. If drivers know a mass influx of people are about to request rides (i.e. the end of a huge sporting event) they could just cancel the ride a few times until there's literally thousands of people requesting. So they get their surge pay for simply waiting a few minutes and cancelling a couple rides.

They don't have to accept, and canceling dings their acceptance rate...accepting and canceling to wait out for increase surge makes no sense

Same. But I haven't been going out much anymore. And a lot of the ones we had are long gone.

I actually never had a problem calling them. I always knew to call before 1:30 if you plan on leaving before the bar kicks you out..but otherwise, it was fine because we called so often.

But lately, it's been much worse. Having to wait until 3:30AM in an extremely sketchy area of town was the worst.

I have zero desire to go out for Halloween Friday night like originally intended because I don't want to deal with the ride home.

That's what I got Saturday night trying to leave Tigerland around midnight and I was just going to Capital Heights. I was at Fred's 5 minutes and just knew that if I stayed that yesterday would have been a rough day. Decided to just try to walk instead. Got to the LSU lakes on Stanford and there was no traffic anymore so I called my wife to come pick me up as I was too exhausted to walk any further.

There needs to be some middle ground here. All this "ohh it's the free market" bullshite is gonna drive Uber into the ground in Baton Rouge.

I deliver pizzas. When we get busy as frick on a Friday and Saturday or holidays, we don't double the price of pizzas. You frickin wait for your shite.

Now, if we had an option for a customer to pay double their pizza and let them skip other customers, sure that's free market. But this 3x+ surge pricing is bullshite. Tell a customer it'll be 30 min instead of 15 min and his ride is still $15 instead of $60 and give him the option.

Yup sure did...I had no other options at the time as my wife was asleep and didn't want to bother her. Decided to wake her up after I embarked on the journey as I knew how much longer I would have to walk and she was cool about it.
