Just got a job in Greenville that starts in November but I won’t have to be officially moved until April. The job will be near the GE plant and Too Golf up by 385 and 85.

Anybody know any good recommendations on where to live with good schools and such? I have 3 kids with one in kindergarten and this will be a long term move so schools are really important. Also, don’t want to live in a shitty area with all the rejects from LivePD

I'd say East side/Spartanburg area. Not Northwest, and not South of the 85 West of 286

Tell me what you think once you have been there. Furman and Vanderbilt are my top 2 choices for schools but I’ve had way more time to explore Nashville than Greenville, since I was on a trip to multiple universities when I visited Furman.

Depends on what you’re looking to spend. Augusta Rd, North Main, and Thornblade/Greer areas are all nice. All the schools in the general area are good, but Riverside, Eastside, JL Mann and Wade Hampton are the school districts it sounds like you’ll want to narrow your search to.

Woodruff Rd is a nightmare, but sounds like you’ll be in it daily since you’re near GE.

Welcome to the area—we could not have asked for a better place to start our family.

FYI, many people live in the towns of Simpsonville or Fountain Inn for lower cost housing, better schools and quieter neighborhoods. Downtown is awesome though.

I came of age in the ‘70s, I am a proud alumnus.

Amazing to realize how few women then did any landscaping.

One of my children’s top two choices were Vandy and Furman with Furman being the ultimate choice.

Size, scholarship, study programs (including MayX program) and location were the key reasons with reason for choice in order of importance.

If you want more info, let me know.

Furman's campus is amazing. You're 45 minutes from Clemson, less than 2 hours from USC and not far from Atlanta and Charlotte. The Furman kids I knew in law school were all nice. A little different, but nice. I imagine with Nashville, the social scene at Vandy is bit better, but Greenville now is night and day from when I was in college.

Also add in Parkins Mill area. Greenville is interesting, make the most of it. I’d say live in Greenville and not a neighboring suburb.

Moved here a couple of years ago. We are renting downtown but building north of town. It’s an amazing place. I grew up in Louisiana. Cost of housing is high but that’s part of the price you pay to be here. I’d look at Greer. The traffic where you’ll be in and out of in a cluster. Public schools are good for the most part here (don’t know a lot on that bc we don’t have kids yet) You have some good advice in previous posts. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Look in the Taylors area. Eastside High School.

Wade Hampton High School is nearby and is also a good school zone.

Don’t have any recommendations on places to live but I have some friends that moved there a couple years ago and it’s been pretty awesome every time I visited.

Moved there in 13 with two small kids....five forks area of simpsonville was PERFECT for us. Lots of good neighborhoods.

We moved back in 16 for work but it's an incredible place,to live. The GE plant was a client of mine, I was there weekly. From five forks area it's about 7 minutes.

Eddy Kicker is a great realtor we used, LA Tech alum from Ruston. SC lets you place your kids in whichever school they want but if your out of district, you have to bring them.

Bells crossing was a great elementary, riverside was great junior high. Quite a different world from south la, but you'll come back I bet. :)

If you ever want more info, let me know. Enjoy it!

You'll be in a great city at it's mid-boom. Only downside is the traffic you'll deal with on a daily basis in that area. I lived there for a few years and am moving back around the end of this year. Mauldin / Fountain Inn / Simpsonville would probably suit your needs as far as raising a family. Goodluck baw

You're going to love it. The traffic in that area is contraflow bad though. I avoid it like the plague. Downtown is great and you're close to a bunch of colleges, cities, and mountains. Good luck!
