If you don't play golf well then learn how!! Worked in Greenville for five months. Played at over 15 courses in the area all public. Unbelievable golf haven! Of course being from LA it would not be hard to beat. So many options and only one was not very good. All others would blow away Santa Maria. Cheap prices compared to BR and easy to get tee times. Living in Houston now but Greenville is on our list of places to retire!

How far is Greenwood from Greenville? I have heard great things about that town as well? Viable option for op?

There's no easy way to get to Greenwood from anywhere in SC. Besides being home to the "world's widest Main Street" and Lander University, can't say much else about the place.

Congrats. It’s a great area. You can’t go wrong with schools in Simpsonville or Mauldin.

All my buddies from back home give me so much crap for the amount of golf I play. But, there's the 15 above mentioned courses within 10 miles of my house and 3 within 5 minutes and they're cheaper and nicer than the comparable courses in La. I'm still pretty shite, but the scores are getting there.

Some good players out of there but other than that and the two you mentioned not much there. Oh In laws might be a plus for some.

Some great golf in within 30 miles of Greenville. Got on at Cliffs one time. Awesome. Links of Tryon like that one. Willow Creek and Furman aren’t bad tracks.

FYI, many people live in the towns of Simpsonville or Fountain Inn for lower cost housing, better schools and quieter neighborhoods. Downtown is awesome though.

This is the correct answer.
Best schools/neighborhoods. Quieter atmosphere but easy to hop on 385 and get downtown G-ville in 15-18 minutes.

You will love it here...moved up from Ga. 23 years ago and haven't regretted it once.

Now if Popeye's in Greer would get those damn chicken sandwiches back it will be Utopia.

I do play golf. Love to golf. Am now very excited about golfing again since I tore my Achilles and by the time I move, I will be able to play golf again!

Sounds like there are a lot of you guys up there. Where are we all meeting up for golf and beers?

Glad to hear that is there now.

That was my major complaint when I lived up there....no effin Popeyes....might have even stayed up there longer if I could have gotten the good bird instead of that Bojangles dog shite.

Funny story: first time we were driving back home after maybe 8 months up there, we stopped at the Popeye's in Montgomery and got a 16 piece spicy dinner (dark of course!)

The sounds coming from that table: no talking, just slurping, moaning, smacking from coonasses that had been deprived of their birthright for almost a year, resulted in quite a few looks of shock, horror, disgust and even fear at the spectacle that was unfolding in front of them.

Still the best meal ive ever had...Id have skull fricked anyone who tried to take that dark meat and mash potatoes that day my friend.

We moved here in April after living in Houston for 27 years. We’re loving it. Great golf courses. Great downtown. Great outdoor activities with State Parks close by. It cracks me up when people ask us if we’re getting used to the heat and humidity.??

JS, one of my sons (both of my sons live in Greenville) is a teacher and his likely future mother in law is also. One lives Downtown and the other a couple minutes away from downtown. A little pricey, good bit of gentrification in progress but, it’s a great area!
I don’t know what your price range is, nor what your limit on commute time is but, if lake life appeals to you, you’ll find that available here. I just moved into a home on Lake Hartwell very near Anderson SC, and it’s about 25 miles across I 85 from there to Greenville. Nice quiet area and you can be in Greenville in 30 minutes or so and in Atlanta in about 1 1/2 hours, about 110 miles . depending on where you go in Atlanta. There’s also Lake Keowee but, it’s a little longer to Greenville from that area. Several people in my small neighborhood commute to Greenville daily for work. Just a little hopefully helpful information. Welcome to you, i know you will enjoy the area, wherever you choose.

Don’t rule out the Powdersville area. It’s booming and not far at all from DT Greenville (10 minutes or so) and 25 minutes from the airport. Good schools also.

Yeah that’s a good area. Taxes little cheaper than Greenville County being in Anderson County. Elementary, and middle school only about 15 years old. High school about ten. Anderson School District 1 is very good

We visited a friend there a few times. The downtown area was awesome.

Read through all of the thread. Simpsonville will provide an awesome quality of life for a young family. Look at the boundaries for schools. Riverside and Mauldin High are preferable to Hillcrest.

Which part of Simpsonville. Does 5 forks differ from Simpsonville? I can’t really tell where the divide and school districts are aligned.

It does match up well because if I do well, it is my choice to stay. With three kids under 5, it sounds like the right place to be.

This is where we have lived for the past 6 years. Schools are great. We go to downtown Greenville for lunch every Sunday. We really enjoy living here.

You can’t justify the prices in the ‘05. Have to go to the suburbs with three kids

My wife still jokes about it being the home of “Peg Leg” Bates and Miss South Carolina 1967 as its claim to fame.

Born in LA, grew up in ATL and went to college in Clinton. A lot has changed in the area since I left school in 1997.
