I'd be pissed if my kid ended up at LSU after spending all that.

St. Marks in Dallas is like $28k/ yr for high school.
I went to an East coast boarding school for a while and it was up there, but at least that included room & board.
Good private schools cost as much as private colleges or in a lot of cases A LOT more than most state schools.

Was it like School Ties? For the context of your post I'm going to pretend it was.

My brother in law and father in law went to Woodberry Forest.

quote:

Tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year is $38,775; room and board is $12,925. The total annual cost is $51,700. During the 2014-2015 academic year, Woodberry offered $5.3 million in need-based grants and loans to 40% of the student body. The average grant is $32,900.

My family is from Wallingford, CT where Choate is located. They didn't attend

quote:

Boarding Day
Tuition $ 53,510 $ 41,200
Technology Fee $ 780 $ 780
Health Fee $ 160 $ 100

Total Tuition and Fees $ 54,450 $ 42,080

At those prices, it's not as much about the education as it is about the high society types you're sending your kid to school with. Yes, the grades areally probably better, the facilities are probably better, and the percentage of kids going to "good" schools is higher. But not that much higher than say Jesuit for it to be necessary to drop that coin.

I grew up in rural area. We didn't have private schools. My parents spent $0.00 on our education (3 kids).

I hear that all the time. I went to lsu and knew way more than 99 percent of my high school friends that went to more prestigious colleges (several ivy league, rhodes, trinity, centenary, tulane, ect). Based off science fields (b.s. Chem here).

The classes that were offered at lsu, being a university, wasnt even comparable to those fancy private schools.

I knew I'd get this response. I'm an LSU alum as well, but if I'm dropping 20k a year for HS, my kid better get into the Stanford's and Ivy League schools of the world.

No offense, LSU < those schools.

What is the average household income of families that sends their kids to private school in baton rouge?

I had a coworker that worked 2 jobs(60+hrs/week) to afford to send her 2 girls to private school. She drives a beat up civic too.

I think my parents paid like $25k for my little sister to go to St Martin's. Her going to kindergarten was more expensive than me going to LSU I think that was $10k.

She went to Hockaday for a year after Katrina, and I think that was closer to $30k

Meh...an undergrad degree from LSU is as good as any other state school. TOPS then do graduate work wherever.

And of course that all depends on what your kid wants to do in life. Elementary Education? Yeah, I'm not spending Ivy League money.

There is riff raff at these schools too. I live in Uptown NO, outside of Lusher and Ben Franklin, most families (middle class and above) send their kids to private or Catholic schools.

Yeah, I have two at AES. Their combined tuition is more than my mortgage.
