Cancer doctor told me there's nothing different from MD Anderson than here local. You hear about it more because that's all they do.

Before he passed my dad was trying to get into a clinical trial. Only 70 people in the world would be in on that trial and 12 of them would be at MD Anderson.

Your local doctor is FoS.

I'd have to disagree. Let me start with, there is nothing wrong with local oncologists. My oncologist here was great. However, places like MD Anderson write the protocols that the local oncologists follow. In other words, MD Anderson is driving how cancer is treated. That is what makes MDA much better than a local doc. Again, there is a lot to be said for a good doctor here (wherever here is). Recognizing the right treatment plan is tough and an art for local docs...however they are getting those plans from places like MDA.

Yeah if some run of the mill cancer I can see other places being ok, but with anything complex or advanced MDA is just better.

The facility is world class and the employees are the best. I was looking for a certain area (its a huge place) and a doctor could tell I was lost, she proceeded stop what she was doing and bring me to where I was going. This employee culture of helping all who go there is apparent at every level. Can't say enough good things about MD Anderson.

yeah and it's the proximity to such avenues that makes MDA/Texas Medical Center the best in the world.

There is definitely a difference. MD Anderson and MSK can get you into trials that locally you would have no shot.

Absolutely go. My dad had lung cancer that was pretty far along when diagnosed and they cured him. Flat out cured him.

They are a great facility with awesome staff. Worked wonders for family member.

If you happen to be in Baton Rouge, Dr. Vince
Cataldo trained at MD Anderson. He's very good.

My mom was originally diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005. We went to MDA for a second opinion in 2010 after a recurrence. She's still alive today. They treat people so well. Not just their ability to treat the disease, but from travel, to hotel, to transportation, the time spent in the waiting room, etc,,,it was an uplifting experience.

My wife had surgery and treatments there over the past 3 years or so. It's probably the best cancer treatment hospital money can buy. You will see people there from all over the world.

I will tell you this, though, the doctors see so many cases, they become what seems to be numb to the patients, if that makes any sense. When they explained to us the procedure my wife was having, it sounded very minimal. They made it sound like they were just going to go in and take a few things out and she would be fine.

It turned out to be a major fricking surgery and she was down and out for damn near a year. It was bad enough that she said if she had to go through it again, she might just choose to let the cancer take its course.
