If he would have came out and said that he was waiting for this moment to say that he was gay, the whole audience would have stood up and clapped and he would win an Oscar every year. JK

So? That's a completely different thing. Every athlete thanks God in almost every interview. No one has ever "come out" during an oscars speech.

He looks classy as frick in that suit too. McConaughey became possibly my second favorite actor last night. He's close with Leo for that. Nobody beats Tom Hanks though.

Glad to see that his hair plugs took.

Well played.

While I respect McConaughey's courage to speak his mind among a throng of liberals who for the most part consider his convictions a myth, I will very surprised if he every wins another Oscar regardless of his future performances.

Is there some kind of study or survey which shows us that most actors are atheists? This is not the same thing as being a resident of California or New York.

It's really not necessary to make every freaking thing in life political or religious.

Did you even see the film he won the award for?

In present day Los Angeles, not really.

You're attempting to connect two completely different situations. Thanking God and "coming out" are very different scenarios. Do you think there would have been a bunch of applause had he gone up there and said "and I'd like to thank the people around me because that's all that matters and there is certainly no higher power to give thanks to". I'll bet there wouldn't be.

The Oscars aren't held in Morocco.

Nor was Casablanca filmed there but my point was, as you well know, stars can make their own statements and, as to royalty, customs curtsey to them.

We lesser luminaries may choose to follow or not.

I would not have gone with the white for all the reasons your link noted nor do I suspect would have you, but we've never won an Oscar.

I don't know how this conversation got here, but I would say that coming out as a homosexual to the world takes a little bit more courage then affirming your faith in the lord.

Celebrities that want to applaud a peer of theirs for taking that step shouldn't get your jimmies in that much of a rustle.

How did I miss his point? He's saying he would have received more attention/acclamation had he come out than he did when he thanked God.

Religious people complain that people don't mention God enough or get criticized when they do but I guarantee if the situation were reversed they would lose their minds. I always see "good for him for standing up for what he believes in" but I doubt they would say that if their beliefs didn't match their own.

I didn't think McConaughey was standing up for something he believed in or was trying to rile up his peers in any kind of way.

Seems to me that he was simply saying a few things that were important to him - and he wasn't worrying about anyone else while doing so. Plus, I appreciated him not being a slapdick about it. He gave a great speech, and so did Jared Leto.

Would have been a hilarious stunt if he had popped off the shirt.

I agree and I didn't take to the speech myself, but who cares.

Dude said things that were important to him. He's always been a quirky guy.
