Police officials said Garner had a history of arrests for selling untaxed cigarettes. Cops said they observed him selling his wares Thursday on Bay St. and moved in for an arrest.
He screamed, “I can’t breathe!” six times before he went silent and paramedics were called.
“They jumped him and they were choking him. He was foaming at the mouth,” Orta told The News. “And that’s it, he was done. The cops were saying, ‘No, he’s OK, he’s OK.” He wasn’t OK.”

Cops get way too aggressive with their rear naked chokes in arrests. They need Big John McCarthy or equivalent in all ride alongs. Or at least train a cop to yell "tap-out."

That one armed choke, might have been uncomfortable, but wouldn't have caused him to pass out. When You're a 50 yo, asthmatic, 400 plus pound man, a light breeze could take you out for a multitude of reasons. It looks like there was no unnecessary force to me. Guy was resisting till he hit the ground. That's how you apprehend someone resisting. It's not the officers fault the guy was unhealthy.

This kinda makes me sick. Its always weird for me to see a video of someone dying, but does it really take all of those people to jump onto him and pin him down? I realize he's friggin huge, but how can you continue that after hearing him basically plead for his life just so you can cuff him.. for selling untaxed cigarettes. punishment doesn't fit the crime man. idc if he was a decent man or not, we don't need to be "protected" by these asshats

He was probably gonna die in the next 3 or 4 years because of his condition. Thankfully the police and a the inevitable scumbag personal injury attorney his family gonna get paid.
