That one armed choke, might have been uncomfortable, but wouldn't have caused him to pass out. When You're a 50 yo, asthmatic, 400 plus pound man, a light breeze could take you out for a multitude of reasons. It looks like there was no unnecessary force to me. Guy was resisting till he hit the ground. That's how you apprehend someone resisting. It's not the officers fault the guy was unhealthy.

So him saying I can't breathe I can't breathe was because of a light breeze?

You ever watch Cops?

90% of motherfrickers say the exact same thing when it's total BS.

Cops aren't doctors.

Never.Resist.Arrest.

Let the lawyers fight it out in criminal and hopefully civil court. Get paid.

Exactly. This is disgusting. Cops should be charge with murder or at least manslaughter.

The war on drugs that the government can't profit on continues.

Dude, I have a low regard for cops as well, but at least I'm reasonable.

When the guy says put your hand behind your back you do it. Ever see anyone talk their way out of being cuffed?

I dont usually support the cops but this one looks ok to me. dude resisted so they had to take him down. I expected them to keep him choked out for way too long but it didnt seem excessive to me, the cop let off almost as soon as he hit the ground. dude was just in bad shape and his attempts to intimidate the cops with his size did him in.

The issue is that there never should have been a law on the books allowing for an arrest for this offense. It adds an unnecessary violent element to what should be no more than a citation and fine.

Hell, this guy is probably less dangerous than someone speeding, and we don't allow cops to pull people out and arrest them for minor infractions.

So in a way, I don't blame the cops, I blame the laws that prioritized arrest for this infraction

No I know. My post was based in emotion not logic. But still- cops are so aggressive these days. Like they had to choke the poor guy.

Within moments Garner, a married father of six children with two grandchildren, stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene. An angry crowd gathered, some recording with smartphones.

In ten years, I hope we read a story about a Staten island Judge that tells one of these six kids that he needed a Father to beat his arse.

I was expecting the cop to actually choke the guy for an extended period of time. I didnt see that. I don't know what caused this guy to die but it wasn't from being choked

Just a question in general:

Is it better to have a criminal father or no father at all?

Th article says the man did not have any cigarettes on him or in his vehicle.

The guy in the video said the police where there after a fight the dead guy tried to break up.

If he was really selling untaxed cigarettes, wouldn't there be SOME evidence of untaxed cigarettes?

I love the commentary:

"This guy right here is forcibly...trying to lock somebody up for breaking up a fight."

How do you detain someone resisting arrest with no force?

Advice to amateur news commentators: STFU and let the pictures speak for you. You generally sound like an idiot.
