I’m the type of person that needs interaction with people on a pretty regular basis, so even if i was just as productive working from home, i would go stir crazy from the isolation if I were to work from home full time.

I'm great with isolation but everyone does need some social interaction. I get mine by going into the office once a week and the rest of the week I have a very social gym experience at lunchtime (crossfit). I stay quite satisfied socially and generally don't get very cabin-feverish unless I have to miss going into the office a couple of weeks because I'm sick or have too many customer meetings or some such thing.

Are you actually working 40 hours per week because you're sitting at a desk posting on TD and Facebook?

The answer is no. None of us do. We shite up all kinds of time.

Do you work from home?

I do about 0-3 days a week. Usually at least 1 day/wk.

Oh Okay. Just trying to help with some tips I’ve come up with over time.

Yes, professional jobs pay employees for what they produce, they are not punching a clock and paid by the hour.

Working from home sucks after a while.

Been working from home nearly exclusively for 10 years now. I go into the office maybe 2-3 days a year. It definitely gets old but, on the other hand, the thought of having to commute again reminds me how lucky I am. Of course, I'm not much of a people person so the social isolation doesn't bother me as much as someone who is more of an extrovert.

As long as your work has defined deadlines, it's relatively easy to stay on track while working from home.

Agree. I couldn’t have worked from home at previous jobs because I was basically paid to be a warm body, but I work from home plenty now because the work is defined and clients would suffer if it didn’t get done.

There’s a lot of BS admin employees out there that do little to nothing (I know because I was one in my first job), so will be interesting to see this play out.

My ideal situation is about a 50/50 split of office and remote work. Say, work from home on Mondays and Fridays, and in the office Tuesday through Thursday. I've done exclusive work from home, though it was a temporary situation, and it wasn't for me. 5 days of daily commuting is also a huge drag. I love when I work from home now, but it's only once or twice a month. Kids are out the door by 6:45, and I hit the ground running and work my arse off until lunch. 9 times out of 10, I have all my work wrapped up by then, and have the afternoon to do some home tasks, or menial office work I've fallen behind on.

I wasn't trying to be a dick.

But, I've heard many people say the thing about getting dressed like you're actually going into the office, etc...

It's just that I've never heard someone who works full time from home say those things. It's usually someone who only does it one day a week, or less than that. If you're used to working from home, you don't have to do those things to get into the mindset to work. Hell, I don't even use my docking station/extra monitors 95% of the time.

I keep waiting for the email to work remote for a few weeks. Then again we work remote pretty freely in our group.

Makes sense.

I’d have to take even more drastic measures if I worked from home full time just to avoid cabin fever.

It’s crazy because I hate my commute, office and most coworkers, but despite all that I still like, or at least don’t mind, going into the office at least a couple days a week.

If we end having to work from home, I will most definitely be bringing my monitors home with me.
