Don't try and lump yourselves in with us, we're better. I read a BOOK last week and I get violently ill at the thought of television.

I don't think Atheists deserve to be thrown in that category.

As a non-practicing atheist, I find that sign hilarious.

So not true. There are a small fringe of atheists who are activist types. They can't shut up, and it stereotypes atheists. I belong to a couple atheist groups, and about 80% of them keep it really quiet. They are hiding in the shadows because they don't want it to affect their jobs, families, etc. And they get really pissed at the vocal guys who think everyone should be "out."

Huh? What exactly is a non-practicing atheist? Does a non-practicing atheist go to church? How do you practice the non-belief in something?

I worked with a guy who was a very vocal atheist. I think it was because his parents jammed his face in a Bible as a kid and he is still bitter.

Other than that I don't really come across very many vocal atheists.

Sounds fairly accurate to me. What do you do in an atheist group?

I rarely ever say anything, like maybe once a year. IDGAF about it, and that's how most of the ones I know feel and act

The thing is, unlike 99% of die hard believers, I have no desire to push my beliefs on someone else. Unless someone specifically asks me, I just keep quiet

yeah I don't get the atheist part either

doesn't the original have "adopted a dog" instead of atheist?

that makes much more sense

Dog adoption people and atheists are on the same level based on Facebook observations.

This OT atheist poster claim of "the silent atheist" is like the OT female poster claims of not being crazy. We get it, you're the exception.

The sign is funny because it's true.

Especially the atheists. I think some of you are blind (deaf?) to the amount of bullshite you spew.

Who would have guessed Atheists were more insecure and defensive than cross fitters? I would have lost money betting on the reactions to the op.

Eta: don't watch TV guy and gluten free guy belong on that sign.

It's mostly just a social group which gives you the opportunity to socialize with people who aren't crazy. They tried doing an occasional book discussion monthly thing, but most people didn't bother reading the books and just showed up to eat and drink. I hosted the big party of the year once, which was the Winter Solstice party. Again, no one gives a crap about the winter solstice - it's just an opportunity to have a Christmas party without the fairy tales.I even had a Christmas tree with a flying spaghetti monster tree topper and atheist ornaments (like Darwin in a Santa hat). But I've gone through my life generally being the only atheist in the room. It's nice hanging out with like-minded people on occasion.
ETA: Oh, forgot to mention - we usually sacrifice a goat at each meeting too.
