Then follow it up with Old Yeller and maybe The Incredible Journey, just for good measure.

Talk it over with the dad and find a newer, prettier model.

Just like with mom

I GOT IT! Have the dog stuffed and posed into a playful position and then give it to the kids. Problem: solved.

Cheerfully waving to the kids and smiling as he murders their beloved family member to death.

Nice.

Tell them you're sorry. It's really not that big of a deal. Kids need to learn to live with loss anyway. You did them a favor.

If the neighbor's wife is a ginger, I would start by asking her to show me where her red fern grows...

Turn your car into a transformer and have them locked in eternal battle

I can't even imagine how shitty you must feel even though it's not really your fault. A friend of mines dog got out once and was killed by a driver. When they went to go get her the driver cried the entire time. It's a terrible situation.

Sounds like a scene from one of those Chevy Chase movies.

I was thinking about pet bevereavement cards along with a gift cards?

Do not do this shite.

Apologetic and remorseful is one thing.

Gift cards like its a holiday, or like you are trying to attach dollar signs directly to the loss will burn bridges.

Be more giving if they still hang around if you want, but don't give a damn gift card with a bereavement card.

GF is distraught.

I've called friends and family and nobody seems sure on how to go about it (the next step for me, if I even need to take a next step....)

Don't really know their parent(s) well enough to call them and ask about a new puppy. Dog was a mutt that was given to them about a month or so ago. Kid's dad told me that the dog slept with the 8 yr old every night. Other son is 13. There were about five other kid's that witnessed the incident. It was a truly awful scene.

Their dog should have been on a leash. It socks bit the fault is with the owners unless you were speedong.

A month?! Are you shitting me? I was imagining a dog the kids had had for like 10 years. You didn't hit a pet. You hit a stray. Get them another stray and call it a day.

It's not your fault and there is nothing you can do besides express your condolences. Gift card as well as any other gift would be tacky IMO. Let the kids parents take care of this. They will know what to do.

My neighbor ran over my dog right in front of me in our driveway when I was a kid so I feel like I have some idea of the situation.

The latest video game should suffice. This wasn't a long attached family pet.

Kind of like a girl that you are hot and heavy about but after a month moves to Siberia.

Sounds callous but it's better than spot who'd grown up with the kids and had been with the family 10 years

Apparently they are interested in the relationship, not winning an argument.

Blame and fault don't necessarily play a part.

Although if that game is played, the fact that they were turned to the side waving at the neighbors like the Partridge family rather than looking where they were going....
