From what you listed as cons...sounds like you would be better suited with a Ridgeline.

But I bought it to commute to work and have a vehicle to hunt with. The best thing about a Tacoma is that it’ll do everything you need it to do as a truck and get you back home without breaking down in the woods or on the road.

Resale Value is AMAZING (I gave $34.5 new and got $31 on trade in after 2 years and 27K miles)

Insane to me that any small truck is as expensive as a full size.

I really like my 2018 but it does feel a little cramped on the inside at times

Power rear window (Tundra's you have to crawl back there and open it by hand)

Tundra is the only truck with a rear window that fully rolls down and mine is power. I thought they all were power but guess not.

I’m fixing to get rid of my ‘17 Ecodiesel Laramie 4x4 for a Platinum 4x4. I test drove a loaded out Limited, and it rode and drove every bit as good as mine.

Once I get it, I’m upgrading to Bilstein Coilovers in the front and Bilsteins with reservoirs in the back. I’ll replace the audio crap later. I plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off of it!

The 3.5L V6 in the Tacoma is a dog. It’s slow, hunts for gears, and gets bad gas mileage. The interior room is really disappointing.

Honestly the new 2023 Nissan Frontier will be the better rig.

The Tacoma needs a redesign. They need to find more power out of that 3.5L V6 or bring back the 4.0L V6.

Pulling heavy weight eventually ruins transmissions of non diesel sized trucks, so we should probably not get one for the OPs mom.

Having a Diesel engine doesn’t reduce the stress on the transmission. Not driving like an you are trying to qualify for Daytona does though.

But if you want a vehicle that lasts 10 years with low maintenance and holds it’s resale value then you’ll want to stick with the Toyota. I’m not the guy looking to spend $50K on a new vehicle every 5 years either.

Unless you actually need rig for serious off roading, I would not bother with the Tacoma.

The Honda Ridgeline is very reliable, gets decent mpg, has an excellent Honda VTEC engine, tows 5,000 lbs, and has comfortable seats (although the arm rests are stupid). It’s the ideal mid sized truck for soccer dads or plant baws that only occasionally tow a utility trailer or aluminum fishing boat. And that’s what most truck owners are if they are being honest.

And they corrected that stupid front end styling for the 2021 model year. Looks decent now for a small/mid sized truck.

How is the ridgeline? I get it's sort of a meme at this point but it’s highly rated by many car magazines.

It’s a good, sturdy, practical vehicle. I’d have one now if the center front arm rests were not so stupid. That’s the only thing about it I didn’t like although I did recently find out that there are aftermarket ones that are much better.

The Honda VTEC 3.5L V6 is a far better engine than the Toyota 3.5L V6 or the Chevrolet 3.6L V6.

Everyone I know that owns a Ridgeline is very happy with it. About half the people I know with a Tacoma wish they’d bought a full sized truck - especially after they start having kids.

I have one. More of a second vehicle. I commute quite a bit so I also have a car.

I agree with most points. Would be better if it had the older 4.0l and prior transmission. The transmission is terrible, wish I had a stick. But everyone's buckling to the EPA these days.

It'd be hard for me to risk money on GM and Dodge. I would consider a Ford V8 but I'm not touching their turbo charged trucks.

I mentioned it kinda tongue in cheek. It’s a Pilot/Odyssey with the roof missing off the back half.

It doesn’t belong in the same category as a Tacoma...but it will run forever and will be as comfortable as it’s twins...the Odyssey and Pilot.

Should have bought a manual...engine always had plenty of pull. Worse gas milagr than an auto, but IDGAF.
