I have a 2009 and it sounds like you described my truck. So, I understand your Con’s for sure. The Pro’s are that mine had been paid off since 2012, has 155k, and all I’ve ever done to her is have her oil changed every 5k miles

Remote start on keyfob
Power rear window (Tundra's you have to crawl back there and open it by hand)
Dual zone A/C
Auto up and down on all windows (Tundra, only driver window down)
Power side mirror fold in and out
Radio sucks
Apps are awful
and the list goes on.
SHould have stuck with Ram

Tundra has a power rear window, maybe the model you bought didn’t. The rest of that list is preference, if you need all that stuff then go get a Ram or a GMC.

But if you want a vehicle that lasts 10 years with low maintenance and holds it’s resale value then you’ll want to stick with the Toyota. I’m not the guy looking to spend $50K on a new vehicle every 5 years either.

My wife hated my 2018 Tacoma Limited. Went back to 4runner limited. I'm happy.

I know lots of guys pulling big boats with the Tacoma and have well over 100k miles with no major problems.

What's a big boat? It couldn't safely haul my 21' walkaround glass boat unless you're a few miles from the launch.

Eta....towing capacity is 5k
Tongue weight capacity is 500
Payload is 1700 tops.

Get a real truck if pulling a boat.

Toyota has just been offering it in certain models in recent years. Not sure if it’s hit the Tundras yet.

Toyota has long been later than other makers integrating tech into their cars.

Apparently Tundra got Android Auto and CarPlay in 2020.

I don't see how you can compete without that now. Once people are exposed to that technology, in a car where it works well, I think they'll demand it. It just changes the entire character of the car. You don't need a navigation system or even Bluetooth if you have that.

Not sure what other "tech" you'd need, except maybe louder speakers.

Agreed. Got in a 2021 AT4 a coworker bought. Wireless android auto and wireless charging in the console means no more wires anywhere to connect the phone. Gamechanger

I had a 2018 TRD Pro and I agree word for word with the OP. If all of your driving is in town and you need a pickup, then the Tacoma would work well for you. Once you get on the open road it is sheer misery. I could add more complaints; it is just that bad. I don't miss it at all.

I'm in a 13 trd offroad. Even these older ones have a trac. Might not be the crawl control like in the new ones but it gets it out of most situations.

I had an 06 Tacoma and loved it, put 170k miles on it, and sold it for $15k within hours of posting it. Probably could have gotten more? When we had our 3rd kid, it just wasn’t practical any more. I’ve had a 2010 and 2015 Tundra since then...love em.

I had a new Tacoma the other day as a loaner, and was excited to get a chance to drive one again. I also found it way underpowered, I had no confidence pulling into traffic. The backseat has zero leg room, not sure what it’s even for?

All that said, will likely be on the list to consider when our oldest turns 16 in a few years.

Completely agree. Got rid of my '10 4.0 LB last year. Wasn't fun to drive at all and didn't get good enough gas mileage to be worth keeping. Fishtailed on wet roads a lot too.

I have Android Auto and Apple Car Play, but I never use it. I have a Navigation system that works off satellite. Android and Apple are absolutely useless when I have to go to areas where cell phone signal is nowhere to be found.

I drive a single cab 2012 with a 4 cyl and auto trans.

4wd
Manual windows
Manual door locks
Aftermarket kenwood stereo

It has zero features. None. Not even intermittent wipers.

But I bought it to commute to work and have a vehicle to hunt with. The best thing about a Tacoma is that it’ll do everything you need it to do as a truck and get you back home without breaking down in the woods or on the road.....and you can drive it to work the next day.

From what you listed as cons...sounds like you would be better suited with a Ridgeline.

I was dead set on buying one last year. Negotiated with multiple dealers via email, nailed one down to a price that was even better than what I wanted. Went there to test drive and ended up not buying the vehicle. A lot of what you stated - overall just felt like a cheap interior for the price.

2009 TRD OR 4x4. I have 145k and pull an 18’ aluminum boat to the coast on average 30 times a year averaging 240 miles round trip. Never an issue. Does everything I need.

You must have gotten an SR5 with no options.
