Just about all of them do this, and it's a shame. There's a show titled "L.A. Preachers" on TV that kind of shines a light on themselves. While their members are poor and giving everything they can to their churches, the "ministers/preachers" are all living in high dollar homes and driving very expensive cars.

There's tons more scripture reiterating this as well but that's a great passage.

The first half of the segment was really easy. I mean really easy reporting. This is nothing new.

The next part was just what any teenager could do.

It was good TV, but not incredible.

Quiet Pectus. It was John Oliver. Every week we must have a thread on the OT about his TV show, it shows we are smart.

So... How much money do you give to Robert Tilton annually?

Find where Jesus said that the government should take the wealth from the rich and give it to the poor.

I mean for the first half of the episode he quoted past news pieces on the televangelists. That's not even his own stuff.

It's like no one has thought this was a scam before last night? I don't get the hype.

Next he'll do a segment on homeopathy and people will flip their shite at the insanity behind it because he explained it in a coherent way.

I'm Christian and prosperity teaching is something that really pisses me off. I can't even stand to look at Osteen's face. But he has a creepy face so that's probably why

Yeah, if I give a big chunk of my hard earned money to some image on a TV screen, he better have a non-creepy face. Goes without saying.

I remember when one of the network news shows destroyed Robert Tilton back in the 90s.

Tilton has always been good for the lulz.

I'm not familiar enough with Olsteen and those types to know, but are they as blatant in terms of begging for money and straight up declaring miracles will take place if they get it...or is it less revival tent bullshite and a slicker message of "it's ok to make a bunch of money, just look at me!" sort of thing?

Having a government take away your money and giving it away isn't "charity"

Eta: and not what Jesus taught. He said render unto Caesar what is Caesars. Totally separate.

Only bad thing is that he's totally preaching to the choir. How many people who are dumb enough to send money to these TV grifters would be tuning in to Last Week Tonight? I'm thinking those two demographics don't have a lot of overlap.

You have people on this board who attend and donate to similar places but they'll see this video and say "oh but my church is much different".

I could post this on the PoliBoard and get some funny responses I'm sure.
