Hattiesburg might not be the best, but it’s damn sure better than NO or BR for a family. I don’t know anything about Olive Branch or Ocean Springs but they are all probably better than everything south of the Lake.

Metairie... especially Old Metairie, is better for raising a family then Hattiesburg. Uptown New Orleans is better than Hattiesburg. Hattiesburg has a lot of crime and it is getting worse. Last time I was there, few months ago, visiting friends in a nice neighborhood and heard about 20 gunshots way too close for comfort. Incident was in the news the next day. Usual suspects.

One negative thing I will say about the Jackson metro area is that it’s almost impossible to make friends. When people ask you where you went to school, they don’t mean college. They mean which private high school

You’re right about Hattiesburg in that it has a lot of crime. It’s shocking really.

Your opinion or do you have actual data backing this up?

What about Brandon?

There are actually two Brandons. There is the City (39042), also called Hwy 80 Brandon and 39047 Brandon that is essentially Flowood North and hugs the East side of the Reservoir. Either is fine. I live in 39047 and have easy access to Flowood, Madison/Ridgeland and the Reservoir. 39042 is zoned for Brandon High and 39047 is zoned for Northwest Rankin. Both good schools, NWR is only a year old and BHS is only a few years old.

Let's go Brandon!

madison has a higher median household income, doesn't require a crossing a bridge that causes major traffic jams, and isnt 60 minutes from the city/work... so no

Why? Since La. ranks last or close to last in almost every important quality of life category, any other state is probably an improvement.

I am deeply sorry that your life has come to a point where you must choose Prairieville or Mississippi

I'd rather live in some areas of Arkansas or Alabama over anywhere in Texas.

moving from la to ms, al, or ar will not result in a real material change for the average OTer.
