Been there a couple of times. If you aren’t tied to family in Baton Rouge or the surrounding area, I’d say Madison would be a good spot to raise kids and live a normal safe life. That’s hard to do around BR these days.

I’ve lived in Baton Rouge burbs and Madison and can say without a doubt Madison is much nicer. What do you want to know? By the wayMS has state income tax.

I live in Ridgeland and work in Jackson. Madison is very nice town. Little to no crime and everything is brick. Great schools, great restaurants, great shopping.

Mayor Mary won’t allow apartments in Madison. That keeps the trash out. Great area to raise a family. Quality schools, both public and private.

I live in Madison but am originally from Louisiana. Madison is nicer than most towns in the south in any state. It’s growing quickly. The food scene is getting much better and there are a bunch of options just south in Ridgeland as well. If you live in Madison city limits it doesn’t matter which side of the interstate you are on really, nice neighborhoods on both sides. In gluckstadt area you certainly want to be on the west side of interstate if you have kids due to better elementary schools on that side. Housing ranges from 165/sq ft to 205/210 sq ft in neighborhoods like lake Caroline and Westlake. Reunion had some on the water go for around 300/sq ft this year but that’s an outlier. Lake Caroline has a 900 acre private lake, golf course, tennis courts, 3 swimming pools, and walking track. My buddy that lives in BR suburbs brings his family here and constantly states his frustration that Louisiana doesn’t have an area like it that he could move his family. Madison is a quiet family place but the amphitheater is right down the road and gets most of the big music and comedy acts. The Braves are just south in Pearl, and ridgeland is getting a top golf. There is the reservoir and pearl river for boating outside of Caroline. Other than LSU there are as many things to do in the metro area as there are Baton Rouge. I love my home state but I’d be hard pressed to say Madison is not a big step up from anywhere there as far as quality of life for a family.

Madison without a moment of hesitation

And lol at everyone saying “be careful, it’s right next to Jackson” as if prairieville isn’t close to BR

Imo Rankin County is better than Madison now. Everyone is moving down Hwy 25 (Pisgah is the hot ticket now).

Definitely.

Mayor Mary keeps the developers in line and follows her master plan to the letter. No apartments are allowed.

Arkansas is nothing like the other 2. Arkansas is an amazing state to live if you’re in north Arkansas or over by Hot Springs

My first time in Jackson suburbs (Brandon/Flowood) a few months ago - they shite all over anything I've seen from suburbs in BR or NO as far as lower cost of living, safely raising family, nicer amenities, etc.

You would never even have to go near Jackson for anything

I always get a good chuckle out of the way Madison hides cell towers so they aren’t a “blight”
