re: Is Coursey Blvd. between Sherwood Forest and Stumberg the next Florida Blvd?

True. If he goes on the north side of government between Lobdell and Jefferson, there's a lot of small, affordable houses in there.
I'm not completely opposed to Shenandoah either. I'll do some serious looking when I'm off for the summer.

Absolutely. Times are changing in that area and Govt is only improving nearby. As young families get priced out of capital heights it will be the next place. The neighborhood is safe, has sidewalks, old growth trees, walking distance to restaurants on Florida Blvd, ect. That portion of Florida is no longer in decline and seems to be rebounding some as well. I think it would be a solid investment.

It all comes down to where you work. If you work downtown, would you like a 15 minute commute to Old Goodwood or an hour + commute to Watson?

Shenandoah is awful. Houses all look the same, little to no shade, tons of traffic to get in and out, ect. It's a little closer than Watson, but not much better. If you work out that way, I could understand it, but if you work more into town, I wouldn't touch Shenandoah, it combines the worst of both worlds. Plus, the ghetto is encroaching in that area.

I'm ok with a 45 minute commute. I've always had at least that long of a drive to and from work. Thanks for the advice.

What about lake at white oak and white oak landing?

Have you ever had a 10 minute commute? I do on the way to work, and it's amazing.

Shenandoah is going the same direction as Sherwood, but kingbob is painting a pretty unrealistic of the present time in that subdivision.
We just sold our house in there after living there and in the area for the past 20 years or so.
It's still a great neighborhood to raise a family but I would be aware that it will likely be going downhill sooner rather than later.

EDIT: I was thinking of the wrong subdivision. I don't know much about that side of town since it's so remote. What I have seen has been beautiful, but inconvenient.

I'm on the north side of government (between govt and north) and this area really is doing pretty well. I feel safe around here, there's plenty of families and neighborhood activities, and it's convenient to any part of the city.
I think a lot of BR people have this misconception that anywhere north of government is bad, but the stretch between govt and florida seems okay for a decent bit at least around Midcity/BR high. Now the other side of florida is a different story...

And no, I'm not trying to be funny.
The bridge goes over WATER. The rest I leave up to you to figure out.

It's funny.
Growing up in Central, I learned that side of BR before I learned the LSU side. Now, I barely even consider that part of BR.
I work near Masons Grill and I basically don't feel like I work in BR at all. The area mentioned in the OP is where I drive through for lunch every single day.

I thought I was fine with it for the years I did it too (living in Central throughout college, then living in Denham). Then I saw the light. Now I think even my apartment on Brightside is inconvenient and I'm not even that far out from the places I go.
If I can't easily snag an Uber home when I have a few glasses of wine at dinner, I'm too far

Yeah, it really is too far. I enjoy Baton Rouge too much to be relegated to that small community.

Shenandoah/Jones Creek area still remains the greatest mystery in BR to me. There's just no reason to ever go out there if you don't live/work there.

Jones Creek is obsolete imo. Just a weird part of town

lol @ the commentary on some of these terrible neighborhoods and hideous parts of town. they are ripe to be conquered, almost like they were developed for it. you can't even pour money into those little crackerbox houses to make them better, and the area businesses are all flavored in line with lower end radio shacks.

So what happened with Port Allen?

Deedy Slaughter saved Port Allen
Nothing entertaining ever happened there until her
