It's called affordable housing, and if you don't think it's wonderful then you are racist

It's crazy how florida, government, northern airline used to be such thriving places but now it's all a shite hole.

Actually it really isn't that crazy

Florida Blvd. back in the 70's early 80's was the Rodeo Drive of BR . It's amazing how that street went from the penthouse to the outhouse. Truly depressing when I have to drive down that street. It's a ghetto from downtown to Denham Springs.

Overgrown grass, high turnover restaurants, delapitaded strip malls, eyesores of vacant buildings (Jack n Box and Carwash - Stumberg intersection). Also, Sherwood Acres apartments on Coursey look really rough comoared to 10 years ago.

Welcome to St. George!

But I've given up on projecting which areas will go "south" and which will hang in there or thrive ..

That's the problem, everyone in Baton Rouge is trying to beat the rush on the "decline", and as soon as they spot someone at the grocery store with a slight tan or more, they put their house up for sale.

Thing is....sherwood is just an ugly area of town. 1960's - 80's bland ranch style homes and stores. Nobody wants to live there if they can afford it.

I would take a renovated ranch style home over the "Baton Rouge Special" faux french country at this point

Are you kidding me? Have you seen new neighborhoods where every house looks exactly the same? You have to look at the address just to figure out which house is yours. I like Sherwood because all the houses don't look exactly the same.

Not to mention that the houses built in the 60s will actually last.

If you are looking at equivalent cheap/mass produced housing like Park Forest, then most of Dutchtown/Prairieville is the next Park Forest. But yes, a few neighborhoods like Biltmore that fit that bill(aren't they already there?). The other 'hoods in Central with 1 acre+ in land aren't in any danger.
