We’re in the market around heights/oak forest. Quality places are 375 per week for full day.

they must have serious dual income to offset the savings of one of them just staying home with them. they all really young or homeschooled?

In some professions it would also be tough to take time off and go back to it if there was a desire to do so. That said I imagine that consideration typically goes hand in hand with couples who can afford to pay 40-60k for a nanny.

Some of us have spouses who make decent money, or live in places with higher costs of living.

Former coworker owned daycare. One day, he took me to tour it. Took me in the room with infants all in high chairs, about 20 of them. He referred to them as his "loss leaders" (those that are used to pay much of his fixed costs). Hearing these babies referred to as business school terms made my stomach turn.

They looked well taken care of and nothing negligent or anything like that. Just confirmed that I would never want to put my child in the possession of someone who saw them as nothing more than widgets.

When my kids were younger it was about 11k per kid per year if I remember correctly. That is going off of what I remember my tax receipt from the Montessori school being each year. They are 10 and about to be 14 now, so it could be more these days. This was in the southwest side surbs.

Sent our son to Heights Preschool for infant care. Cheaper and they were great.

Moved him to Primrose in Garden Oaks at age one.

ITL child care isn’t cheap though

I think it’s so fricked is that women in this country have to go back to work when their children are only 6 weeks old.

I have a five week old and I can’t even begin to fathom allowing a stranger to take care of my baby for most of the day.

Preach brother. Big problem in this country is lack of stay at home moms.

Yep. Why not just sell the new Tahoe you drive them to daycare in and downsize the house? Between the money saved on those three things you’ll have more than what she makes.

We lived in the Heights when our kids were born. We used a day care from a large church that has elementary and middle school. It was $200/wk as infants in 2003 but dropped some when they moved to pre-school. Dropped a bit more when they entered elementary. They both stayed through middle.

I don't think it is as profitable as you think. Hiring competent staff, insurance and facilities are very expensive.

correct. we have a neighbor here who sold the daycare him and his wife started back in the 90’s. Said insurance and updates are a killer.
