Do you enjoy having an activity when vacationing? Skiing gives you the opportunity to do a sport that is an absolute thrill, challenge yourself to get better, etc. At the same time, you are in the middle of some of the most stunning scenery the world has to offer. It's just so cool, looking at the trail map, planning your next run, or where you want to spend the afternoon.

On top of that, there is killer dining, bars, and places to hang out all over the mountain. At the end of the day, you ski into your favorite hillside bar, peel off some layers, and drink frosty beer on the deck, while gawking at/picking up OT 10's.

Later on you move it to the hot tubs.

I really can't see sitting on the beach drinking Busch cans sitting on a lawn chair is even remotely close to as fun. I've done both more times than I can count, but I'd pick skiing over any beach, every time. (Yes I've been to Maui, Oahu, Carribean, Destin, and all of 30A)

Some people are mountain people, some are beach people. I don't see the allure of the beach and I've tried. I need to be in the mountains.

The problem is that those small private areas don't make research easy. My husband likes to ski but I don't. I've tried researching different areas but I don't know much about skiing so I don't know what makes an area good or not.

What I don't want is to rent some crappy condo off 5 crappy photos online. There's no centralized place to sort through properties based on price, accommodations and other entertainment options for non-skiing visitors like spas, wine tasting, etc. Resorts are easier bc you can book a class of room and there are plenty of entertainment options. But the prices are ridiculous for what we would consider an "extra" quick vacation.

Skiing can be done on a budget but you really have to be living close to the mountain.

We day trip from Denver to Breck/Keystone/Vail/Beaver Creek, pack lunches and beers in a back pack, then grab a cocktail to end the day.

Occasionally we will stay the night on credit card points.

If we had to do what most people do - fly in, rent all gear, buy lift tickets, hotel, meals, etc. We absolutely wouldn't be able to afford it.

Mountains are way better in the late spring and early summer. Lake Tahoe, Tuolumne, Telluride...they're only good when you can get away from everyone else.

Can't you just rent some snowboards and boots and go hike up a hill? You'll figure it out.

mud season is cheap too if that's what you like

I like to raft during the summer but that's about it

I rode four days in Jackson Hole, WY this year.

$127/day lift ticket.

I loved every minute of it.

But I've been riding for 20 years now.
