I've never once had the urge to go on a ski trip. I'm almost 100% positive I enjoy the beach more than skiing. And I live 3 miles from the beach.

Especially if you include travel. We were looking at another trip to SS...Just a bit strong.

Agreed. It wasn't long ago that Vegas was one of the cheapest vacations you could take. Cheap airfare, cheap accommodations, cheap food. It's almost cheaper to go to the Bahamas now

Resort fees, charging for parking, boring casinos

All the casinos these days are mirror images of one another. Bland and boring. No charm or theming or anything. No point in even visiting them.

Skiing, like golf is pricing itself out of the reach of regular people.

I wasn't even figuring travel in that number.

I'm still gonna go every couple years but I'm not happy about it

I'd never go to Vegas again if it wasn't for all the work conferences I have to attend there

Let's be honest, that isn't real skiing, is it even a mountain?

took the wife and 4 kids to Crested Butte for a week between Christmas and New Years. First time anyone of us ever been and wanted to experience it. The cost for 6 people to rent equipment, 2 days of ski school, plus lift tickets was outrageous. Total trip cost 15k and I will never ever go back.
In my opinion if they would make it cheaper for people learning... (not even using the lift tickets) more people would learn to ski and they would get way more repeat costumers.

Our ski area is owned by the city and it's much less expensive than the mega resorts. I think most private small areas are struggling to compete with the larger areas right now which is a shame. There are quite a few that have great terrain and no lines. I think people pay more for the megaresorts based solely on name recognition. A little research can save you money and avoid the crowds.

Well the most common phrase on the OT is part of the problem, people talk about the lower end stuff like its "trashy".

Facebook and all this social media has made middle class women think they need and deserve high end places and only high end places. Even the low end resorts try to cater to the rich and famous, instead of just trying to get people on the slopes.

The phrase "we go there because its cheap fun" is not used enough now a days.

I think a big part is that most Americans just don't have that kind of expendable income these days. Same thing that's killing golf.

I've never been to a ski resort. This one is less than an hour from my house.

7 Springs Pennsylvania

I honestly don't have the time this winter so it will have to wait until next year.

It's no Colorado, but it was always a fun Friday or Saturday trip when I was younger that was reasonably priced, a short drive, and got a ton of traffic when it was cold enough to go because it used to be pretty reasonably priced. I'm not Picabo Street, I don't need much more than a couple hills to be entertained.

If we're talking legit skiing, Snowhoe is probably closest to us (6 hr drive) and a two-day lift ticket alone for two adults plus two night's lodging is over $1000 (per their website for this weekend). That's not including food, gas, equipment, and spending money.

That's absolutely ridiculous.

skiing is a hell of a lot of fun and the mountains during the winter are really a wonderful environment. however, the population is aging and frankly, once you get past about 45 years old, skiing gets to be more work than fun....

Believe me I did loads of research and found much better ski prices in Banff and other areas but getting a family of 6 round trip to other areas was 4 times more than round trip to Denver from New Orleans
