Seems like Charlemagne should have gotten a vote or two by now.

yeah, but no..... He can't be the greatest leader if he lead Into a situation that was impossible..... He may have been the best motivator but a leader needs to lead their people to a better life or whatever, not to getting their shite pushed in

Hannibal was a badazzzz. Dude marched a while army elephants and all to kick some Rome arse. That was only gonna work so long, but to do what he did was a real achievement.
I also tend to lean to the underdog. The resources someone has at their disposal should count for something.

Hitler was a terrible leader. Less than half of Germany actually voted for him as chancellor. Also, because of the way he reordered the command structure of the military his generals had overlapping authority and were constantly infighting with each other. Also, personally inserted himself into military decisions overriding the authority of some of the world's best tacticians and ordering them to do things like wasting countless lives and resources trying to take Stalingrad even though it was of no tactical significance. Hitler simply wanted to take the city with stalin's name on it for vanity. Let's not also forget that he was such a great leader that his own officers spent almost a year trying to kill him. The military achievements of Germany were in spite of hitler not because of him.

It was at 83% at the end of the war, and never dipped below 78% between 40 and 45.

Granted he focused all of his efforts and energy to the war effort, and rightfully so; but its written many, many times, that people believed because he was such a good leader in war, he would suck in peacetime. Maybe that would have been true, but I don't believe it.

Alexander is the greatest leader based on results. The fact his empire splintered after his death shows how powerful a personality he was

He should've just quit while he was ahead, I suppose. His thirst for power garnered him many "great" achievements and quite a reputation around the world, but it ultimately lead to his demise as he had conquering the entire world on his mind.

I wouldnt say he was a terrible leader. He just simultaneously possessed many qualities that make both piss poor leaders and good ones.

Hannibal was never actually the ruler of Carthage though, hell the Leaders of Carthage didn't even really like Hannibal, he was a bad arse though.

My vote goes to either Caesar Augustus or Nelson Mandela. Being a great leader doesn't have to mean being a great conqueror

I meant subjectively. Khan conquered China, Asia, Russia, nearly wiped out the Muslims. He died at the top of his game too.

He is credited with killing 100 million people.

I said it earlier, he did so much raping and boning that 1 in every 500 Asians has his DNA.

He did all that with a bunch of filthy mongol Plains men.

Atilla, Hitler, Alexander... All chumps compared to ghengis khan.

He did more with little to no resources.

people who fought in Europe would have to say Eisenhower - or maybe Patton.

People who fought in the Pacific would have to say MacArthur.

Everyone born after that says American Idol (or whatever the newest stupid thing is on TV I don't even watch it anymore).
