F that you guys are nuts wanting to add more to the gas tax, its already almost 20% of what you pay right now for fuel. If you pay $2/gallon in texas and 39 cents goes to tax thats disgusting. They dont show you that on your bill bc you would throw up. Trust me its there, they take it first thing every wed out of my account, they never miss it right at 7:01 am every week.

How about we close down underperforming state colleges with redundant faculty and use that money instead?

Not sure police are underpaid...they just need different rules of engagement. They should be empowered to deal with threats in a much more decisive manner. frick the jury.

You are sending them money you collected as tax. I'm a business owner myself. I send a monthly check to the state and four parishes.

But it's money I collected for the state, not my money.

If you collect more tax money you aren't losing profit. Plus there is a 1% vendor's compensation on some taxes so You actually make money on taxes collected.

I paid $1.46 today for my load of gasoline LOL tax is 39 cents so do the math. The cheapest I can pass along gas is 1.85 to breakeven if you dont pay with a credit card.

I get your point but thereis already so much wasted tax money. Cut every welfare program and let the leeches starve. There the cops have their raises and more to spend elsewhere

just wanted to point out everyone loves the police, until it comes to fixing probelms, then they resort back to only loving their own money.

Gotcha.

okay, let's keep the starting pay at $15 an hour and just post links when crap cops shoot people for no reason or when call response averages over four hours in NOLA. All so you can save $1 per fillup

I'd rather gas taxes go to roads and property taxes go to police and fire departments. I'm fine paying a little more on both IF we see improvement. The problem with Louisiana is you don't ever get what you pay for. The corruption is beyond repair at this point.

The problem is that we have dedicated taxes for all of the things that are "good," like law enforcement, libraries, parks, schools, roads, public transportation, fire, EMS, etc. etc. etc. Where in the hell does all of the general fund money go? I'm sick of new taxes every year for good causes, with no mention of the general fund monies and how they are used, or MISUSED.

No. The money is already there. It's on our elected officials to get their thumbs out of their asses and get state/federal fiscal houses in order. Approximately 3/4ths of our state budget is statutorily protected from cuts. There's a ton of wasteful spending and nothing can be done about it. That's the problem...

well im not muslim, but nice try. I dont care about gas prices, most stores dont, gas is all about being as cheap as possible to draw you into the store for the items like 10 cent bottles of water being sold 2 for $1. The groceries are where the money is. I sold over 6M gallons of fuel last year paying over $2.4M in taxes, well well well over what I made personally, I cant believe anyone thinks we should pay more. I sometimes sell loads at a loss if the price drops too fast so I can compete with others. It doesnt matter in the end bc the inside sales is where its at but its comical the government makes money on every gallon and the guy risking his own cash cant even do that

No, just let supply and demand determine what they're paid, like every other job.
