If we could pass a gas tax of 5 cents, with all proceeds going to police payroll

would people be for it given the FACT that we know police are underpaid, or would we all oppose it as just another 'evil' tax?
I ask because let's face it the reason why police have issues with recruitment and hiring is the low pay. They should start at at least $50k with brass making six figures. A tax on gasoline could accomplish that even with the future reduction in marijuana related arrests.
It is hard to get the best and the brightest when you can't pay people a decent wage to put their life on the line. I DO think that paying police more would fix so many issues we have today in law enforcement. We just need to pay for it.
Gas being so cheap now, it seems the perfect time to tax, IF the tax could only go to police payroll.
What say the OT?

I've met beat cops that make around 6 figures. They're paid just fine.

Can we also pass a tax to keep the grass cut on Airline Hwy instead of waiting till it gets 4 ft high?

we already pay nearly 40 cents a gallon gas tax here in texas, you may or may not know this, but im in the gas business believe me I love having to set aside a nice $40-50k a week to send our government. I make 10-15 cents a gallon and the government makes 39 cents a gallon. I have millions invested in my 5 stores, they dont have a dime at risk

just wanted to point out everyone loves the police, until it comes to fixing probelms, then they resort back to only loving their own money.

Ok.
My neighbor is a sheriff and said he made about 80k last year. He said he could've made more if he felt like putting in more OT.

Look more closely at education funding first..I'm sure there is quite the trough there to reallocate..if not, I would consider endorsing a gas tax for cops
