re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Taxing Tiger
All good. I thought out what I was doing before building in the swamp. Pros outweighed the cons. I can live with the consequences. Pretty certain I won't have this issue again for a long time. Only had a foot of water in my backyard during the March flooding. About 8 times that now. I'm a numbers gu...

re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Taxing Tiger
Yep. I'm about 10-12 inches higher than your buddy and my other neighbor. Believe they changed the BFE sometime between when they built and we did. All I remember is that we went 1.5' above BFE. Want to say we're sitting at 12.5' (that's what I instructed my builder to do...maybe a little higher as ...

re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Taxing Tiger
Why do a lot of people build in a flood zone? There's only so much land. We love it on the low side. Large lots, great scenery, quick access to BR and New Orelans. I could go on and on about the positives of living where we live. Every house on that side of the road right there was built at least on...

re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Taxing Tiger
Thought I saw something somewhere that said 46" pumps. Maybe 5 of them. But don't quote me on that. I've seen so many rumors/etc the past week that I can't decipher what's true or false. Completely burned out at this point. Just finished moving more sandbags to help neighbors shore up weak spots in ...

re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Taxing Tiger
Speaking of subdivision people...big shout out to the folks in Oaks on the Bluff. We started off with 10 people sandbagging and by noon we had 30+ people helping. Folks from Oaks on the Bluff came over in droves and started helping us. It was an awesome feeling having complete strangers show up and ...

re: On the back side of Alligator Bayou...Parish ordered evacuation (Aug 15th) - Taxing Tiger
Any word on when they will start cutting on road to relieve water levels? What's everyone's consensus on how low Manchac has to get? Neighbor just told me he's hearing another 4-5 days. No way we can avoid rain for that much longer......
