Stop torturing yourself with indecision and call the poepoes. Sorry you're not in an HOA.

For everyone talking about my "thin walls", I'm not in an apartment. We both have very nicely built brick homes.

People can be neighbors without being in an apartment.

I have a similar issue. We live in a nice neighborhood in Metairie. Moved in 3 years ago. The guy across the street is very into his drums. He's an older guy who's wife passed away a few years ago. I've never talked to him, but I would peg him as mid 50s or older.

He plays almost every single day for hours. It's not uncommon for him to go from 1pm to 5pm. He plays along to music that he has cranked. Sometimes I'll hear a commercial for a second so I think he's playing along to either the radio or an internet station.

It used to be mildly annoying. As long as my TV was on I could pretty much tune him out. For some reason, he now opens his windows during the day and I have a full concert inside my house. So now my Saturday and Sunday afternoons are spent listening to his life's soundtrack competing with the movie I'm trying to watch (or whatever I'm doing).

I'm not sure what to do. My wife and I thought about talking to other neighbors to see what they think. The houses on both sides of us are really old people and probably can't hear much anyway. On one side of him is a guy that plays in a local band. I never hear him playing anything but his house may be more understanding. On the other side is a woman I can't stand. She has a live in boyfriend and they like to get in a shouting/screaming match every couple of months. So I'm not sure my neighbors would be much help.

I hate confrontations. I'm too quick to anger and I think this could go really poorly. I've been holding out hope that the higher temps would lead to him leaving the windows shut and I can deal with it. Times like this I think I could deal with an HOA.

I made sure when i bought my house there was plenty of space between me and my neighbors. I dont mind having neighbors just dont want them right outside my window. Why people would want to live in a subdivision with neighbors arms length is beyond me. I'd rather buy an older house with a descent sized yard then buy a new home with no space between the yards.

Good point

If you have a low tolerance to loud noises, unsightly things and other normal things people do, make sure you have a lot of personal space.

Is it too loud or do you just have thin walls?

Also whaat time is this. Sorry but if someone has a legit speaker system they should be allowed to enjoy it at reasonable hours. These people just built a house down my block and throw parties with some killer spanish salsa music every saturday/ sunday. But they don't go on late and I generally just ignore since they own their house and are allowed to play music in their yard.

If the dude is blaring his speaker system too loud at bad hours of night ok, call the cops if he refuses to quit I guess.

probably just ask him to please keep the window shut while playing the drums, he may not even realize it. I used to play in high school and didn't realize how loud it was outside the house when I would practice.

That sounds hugely excessive, and you're very accommodating. Perhaps everyone in the vicinity should exert their privilege, and there will be an arms race to see who can be the loudest.

would assume he is talking about the middle of the day since he used "nap" instead of sleep, cops aint doing shite in most places as disturbing the peace is not going to apply.

While I'm sure the time of day is relevant to disturbing the peace issues in most jurisdictions, it doesn't give free reign to be as loud as you want, especially if we're talking about long periods of time happening consistently.

There used to be a guy who was renting a house down the street that must have worked on 4 wheelers for a living because he was always home and all he did all day was ride different 4 wheelers down the street on the side of my house up and down wide open.

If these had been normal 4 wheelers it may have been ok, but most of them had the wide open muffler sound and it got really old.

I work from home, so I took that into consideration and usually tried to ignore it but one day it was so loud I couldn't hear a meeting I was on on the phone.

I confronted him and it went about as well as one would expect that confrontation to go. A guy that goes up and down the street all day every day as fast as he can with the throttle wide open and sometimes with a 3 year old sitting on his lap is not really that smart to begin with so how do you think he took being told he was an a-hole?

You pay taxes don't you? Call the cops. You're paying for their services. Use them.

I don't really have anything to add, but just want to say I got a kick out of your username.

I was at a buddies place for a St. Pat's party this year, and had a grumpy sneak up on me. I told my girlfriend I pooped and she gave me a book of matches. So I just went and set them in the bathroom. I had been drinking, but eventually got the message and went back in and lit one.

He didn't try and fight me. He probably would have killed me in a fight....but I was so sick of it at that point I really didn't think about that as a possibility.
