$2500 or so. I purchased it a jewelry show in new orleans. This was in 1997. That was a substantial sum for me back then.

I've seen some fake diamonds that looked very real. My mother in law has a diamond so enormous it looks fake. What's the difference

I guess I could understand that. Even if you're a young professional just making $90k, you should be able to do $15k which is 3 months take-home.

how bout you take the money you would spend on a ridiculous ring, and put it toward something better, like a down payment on a house or property.

Too much, but she absolutely loves it and so does her entire family. I made sure to include a few touches that made it extra special. She can't wait to show it off to all her aunts and cousins at Easter. I'm bringing the Manischewitz

Sure you could spend that much, or you could spend 1/10th of that and save the rest for something far more practical.

The real ballers realize diamonds are shite and any woman concerned with the price of the ring isn't worth having.

The ring my wife is wearing has a 66 and a 58 year marriage under its belt already. It should serve us quite well over the jext half century.

I like the OP that suggested instead of spending a rather large amount of money on a ring - how about putting that towards a house or property.

Also, it's pretty trashy to wear an engagement ring after you are married. Once the engagement has been met, it is only logical to wear a wedding band.

A woman referencing logic, that's rich. Your point makes no sense.

I bought all the stones and had it built by a jeweler for $6K. If I bought it retail, it would have been around $10K.

This is what I did as well. It's the best way to go.

Then why don't you sell yours and get a fake?

Then you could buy something more "practical"

Because the ring was not my decision, and returning it would yield little in comparison to initial price.

If I had to start over, I'd be happy with a fake one. Or just assuming it was real
It's not the practicality that is alluring. It's the thought of what could be bought instead. A newer home, a car, an awesome vacation...etc. idk I just would like those things more

Obviously you do if she settled with someone too cheap to buy her a damn ring.

I guess no woman wants to say her ring came from Costco? They could always lie? A sparkling Stone is a sparkling stone. No one will know.
