Depends on the person. When I bought my fiances I shopped around a good bit and went with a wholesaler. In my opinion the engagement ring is a representation of me so I spent what I thought was appropriate in that situation. But I think everyone should spend what they think is appropriate without putting themselves in a hole. Also, negotiate the frick out of the price...My fiances ring appraised by a jeweler and not for insurance purposes was 25k. Ins appraisal was 30k. I paid much less for it and could probably sell it for more than I paid for it assuming you only get 50% of appraised value.

I spent $2k of student loan money.

Wife loves it as far as I know, and that's far enough

You'd likely be the first.

From what I have read yes. I think bc most people only sell jewelry if they are hard up for cash. And that shite is always on some big SALE. Plus it sits on the shelf longer than other goods I assume so there is a cost to carry it in inventory. I only know what I have read though bc I have never tried to sell jewelry before.

I know my buddy tried to take his rolex back to a store and they offered him half what he paid and they would have turned around and sold it for double the offer.

Yes and no. Obviously everything has a value if someone is willing to pay. You can't ge ta 2 carat stone for the same price as a 1 carat stone. I do agree that ins appraisals are bullshite though.

You would be surprised by the amount of people that do. Just because they don't know any better.

ETA: In the end it only matters if the buyer and the fiance walk away happy. Mine was already mad I spent what I did but had I spent more she would have hit the roof. On the other hand she loves when people appreciate the ring. So do I so it's a win win

I spent $11k at Blue Nile and they were nice enough to provide an appraisal. It's worth $15k, not sure why didn't just sell it for that

If my wife wants a 25k ring she better go steal it

I know a guy...got a 3k ring for half price....but I don't think I would have spent that much on a ring if I wasn't getting the deal

do research on De Beers....diamonds are pretty much worthless.
