Zero... which I'm actually not too surprised by.

8 know quite a few who've rewired their synapses in all kinda other ways.

People think they're getting heroin, but are getting fentanyl as mentioned above.

Baltimore's ODs are outpacing the homicides:

Don't you live near Lafayette?? If so, I'd bet money you know someone that's tried heroin. It's become really bad in that area.

I dont know the guy, but one of my best friend's ex's bf didn't wake up Sunday morning 10/15, due to some type of OD.

I never met him, don't even know his name.

But he's another victim of poor choices/easily accessible narcotics.

I know of probably 7 or 8. 2 of which I would call friends. The others were just acquaintances or the brothers of friends. I've also been involved with the recovery community the last 2 years so I've been exposed to more addicts than most through that. One that died just last month in the hospital. He had MRSA and was hospitalized. Had some heroin brought to him and shot it in his port and was found dead on the hospital room floor. This guy came from a VERY successful family here in Monroe. Millionaires multiple times over and now he's dead in the ground.

I have a very good friend that I grew up with that has been an opiate addict for years but got clean before the heroin epidemic hit. After working a few years in Alaska, he lost his job and ended up in Wash St. I heard from him twice in the last week and he is back on the opiates and now doing heroin. He's homeless and refuses treatment. Mark my words, he'll be dead in a month. I hate it but there is nothing I can do for him. If I sent him money, he'd just blow it on heroin and I know this. I'm helpless and it sucks. I hope I'm wrong, but I fully expect to hear that the worst has happened any day now.

I won't get long winded about my familial experiences in this department but you've done all you can.

Whatever happens, happens. You've been a kind/generous human, but as is life, peoples actions will take their course NO MATTER WHAT.

Thanks for the kind words. I've been around addicts and alcoholics long enough to know this. I'm in recovery myself and haven't had a drink in 17 months. I know it was a decision that only I could make. Same for him. He straight up told me that he doesn't want to go to treatment and he'd rather live on the streets getting loaded than to enter treatment. That's his choice and he'll have to either live or die with the consequences. I accept that but it still sucks to be so helpless in the situation.

Look, it's naturally tragic to hear that. I dont even know the guy, but whoever says that is totally in the possession/throes of addiction. Despite what this board may say, addiction is generally overwhelmingly genetic predisposition.

Regardless of that, you did all you can, some people you LITERALLY cannot save, no matter what. Even if you had a million dollars to offer them. It's just the map of their life. I know from personal experience.

OD is a loose term. When you see in a documentary where a person takes it and knods off, or does that "heroin lean", they have technically taken an over dosage amount.

By OD do you mean death?

ETA: as much an epidemic as it supposedly is, I've never even seen it IRL. But the news makes it sound like 1 in 5 people have recently used it, and its residue is on 75% of all circulating currency.

One of my very best friends. He was a junior theta xi at LSU with a 3.8 GPA and plans of an MBA. More importantly he was one of the nicest, giving most genuine guys you would ever meet. It’s not just “burnouts” and “low lifes” that this happens to. I miss him dearly

I had two laborers on my job OD within a few weeks of each other. Didn’t realize how bad an epidemic heroin is in Pennsylvania. It’s pretty sad.
