Another problem with the “civilized tribes”, especially Cherokee, is that there was widespread assimilation, intermarriage, and offspring produced between Natives and Europeans almost as soon as Europeans set foot on this continent and encountered these tribes.
John Ross is probably the most notable Cherokee in history. He was born in the late 1700s, served under Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812, and was a Cherokee leader during the Trail of Tears.
His father was white. His “Cherokee” mother was mixed. He was probably only 1/8 Cherokee at most.
If Cherokees 200 years ago were far from being full blooded Cherokees, imagine how diluted their ancestors DNA must be today.

I was always told I had a great deal of Cherokee but ancestry.com said southwestern US and South American tribes. I'm not quite clear on how to translate their "markers" to percentages.My dad's whole family had the look but I look just like my Mom's Irish brothers. All my maternal great grandparents were born in Ireland. Results showed traces of Portuguese and Pacific Islander too. Lots of Scandinavian too. From the time of Julius Caesar to William the Conqueror the people of the British Isles became noticeably taller and fairer. Cause "We're the Vikings and we're here to party".

My wife is part Choctaw, can't handle the fire water. When are the Choctaws gonna build a casino? Guy I went to school with is part of the Coushatta tribe. His grandmother was full Indian from that tribe. He used to bum cigs and beer from us when we were younger. Now gets a check for doing nothing but being a descendent.

Nobody is, minus a few pockets in TN/NC. The injuins were corralled and shipped off. And we did a damn good job of getting them off our land. Whites at the time looked at them as subhuman, and didnt mix DNA.

I am. One of my ancestors was Native American but not sure from what tribe. Most likely Cherokee or Choctaw

I certainly don't look N.A.,but my Mother has/had 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
1 brother and 1 sister had really dark skin and jet black hair.Looked like Apache's.

Same. Dads paternal grandmother was full blooded creek Indian. My DNA report said around 5-6% so that’s about right.

Mine came back 17% native Indian. I was a little surprised as no one in the family has ever claimed that heritage. I think a lot of people with some Mexican relatives will come back with some North American Indian in their blood.

Back in elementary the white boys that would hunt and shite would always claim they were native American somewhere down the line. It was quite weird.
