How did you cure your GERD? UPDATE about dreams in OP

And did you have to clear your throat all the time before you did?
I started taking Prilosec Tuesday morning right when I wake up. I can't tell for sure, but I think the throat clearing is a bit better.
But the crazy thing is that I'm having vivd, NOT-good dreams. I'm not going to call them nightmares, but planes crashing, people dying and coming back to life, and guns. And I never dream. Nobody mentioned that in the thread, so I thought I'd see if anybody else experienced that.

Doctor gave me a prescription for Pantoprazole 40MG and took care of it almost immediately.

I quit drinking beer for a while. That did it for me.

Interesting. Do you have to take it continuously or can you take it for a while and it solves the issue for a long time?

Once you start taking the pills you will likely never be able to stop. Try Zantac otc

Zantac usually doesnt work as well as PPIs
Try over the counter omeprazole.

I stopped taking Pantoprozole for about a month because I was too lazy to get it filled. Started having problems shortly there after. Got it refilled and started taking it again and haven't had a problem since.
The only possible side effect my doctor told me about is that you're more susceptible to stomach ulcers. However, it's still a small percentage of users.

I found symptom relief with Pantoprazole (Protonix) but after several years I found a different solution.
An MD practicing as a Natural Doctor ordered tests which came back positive for helicobacter pylori, a bacteria in the stomach. I was given 3 drugs for a 2 week period. I have now been off all meds and asymptomatic for the 8-9 years since.

I was on Protonix for a while, which relieved my symptoms, but I got off of it a while back. I need to get back on it, because this shite sucks

Back in 2009 I had it HORRIBLE. Had never experienced it before. Had two upper GI scopes performed and they couldn't really find anything. I tried completely changing my diet, taking many different PPIs, etc and nothing worked. Finally I just said frick it, I'm going to eat what I want and it cleared up within a week or two. I'll get it from time to time for a few days but for the most part its gone. I'd bet just about anything that it was a bacterial issue that had it so bad for awhile.

So with that being said, I would ask your Dr about the test.

Prilosec worked better than the prescription stuff for me. Once in the morning at it is gone. If I skip one morning I instantly feel the difference.

I don't know what GERD stands for but a Nexium a day will keep your stomach feeling the best it ever has

I have always had some sort of heartburn. I took Prescription Nexium when I was a teenager. I would have heartburn everyday sometimes twice. Took Prilosec and Prevacid a few times and it worked for a week or so. It would just come back with less frequency. Zantac would be my savior there. I wasn't eating bad and I don't eat bad normally. However, once I found my foods that cause it, the acid didn't come back as often. It was starchy carbs (Rice and potatoes) and tomato sauce that did it. Cut those out and it has been much better. I still take Zantac every once in awhile but no more Prilosec or Prevacid. The key IMO is to find your trigger foods and not overeat. Learning to eat the correct portion will help keep it down. You will treat/lessen the symptoms by addressing the underlying cause. You may not be able to completely remove it but it will be considerably less and manageable.
BTW OP, Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium are pretty much the same chemical PPI but in different states (or so that I read). No reason to take anything but Prilosec as it is the cheapest.

Felt like I had a baseball in my chest. Was so bad I actually had a hard time swallowing food. Tried everything over-the-counter, and from my doctor. Finally got a prescription for Aciphex. Was the only thing that worked for me. Took it daily for a couple of months years ago and cleared me up completely. Now I use Zantac max strength for flare ups.

FWIW, I used to suffer from acid reflux and need a Zantac every other day. I started a low carb diet and haven't had an issue since.
