Wasnt she accused of jaywalking?

I don't know the law regarding jaywalking in TX so I don't know. Normally, the rule is that it's not jaywalking if you yield the right of way to vehicles on the road. There also should be a sign or signal posted.

, in Texas you only have to show ID once you’ve been arrested, not before. If you’re lawfully detained in Texas, you do not have to provide ID. However, you cannot give false information about who you are.

does anyone know the LA law?

Someone else posted it earlier...

c) Refusal by the arrested or detained party to give his name and make his identity known to the arresting or detaining officer or providing false information regarding the identity of such party to the officer.

So pretty much same deal.

How about the cops showing some fricking respect and leaving her the frick alone?

There are ways to get people's attention while they are running that doesn't involve grabbing a female joggers arm from behind.

One could easily ask the same of the police.

someone posted this story on facebook earlier and I'm trying to link the source, but that story talked about how they were trying to get her attention and she wouldn't stop because she had her headphones on. The officer jogged after her and grabbed her arm to get her attention. After they got her attention, she continued to be uncooperative. when asked to provide her name, she refused and was not carrying any ID.

Again, I'm not necessarily condoning what the cops did, but why be so belligerent? just give them your name and move on with your life.

so minding your own business = belligerent

How was she belligerent?

If anyone was belligerent, it was the douche cop.

If she was detained because she was jaywalking then she is required to give her information. Refusing to do so and throwing a hissy fit doesnt get her a free pass.

Why don't they say what she was arrested for? The PD could clear this right up. You don't have to show ID until after your arrested. So either she was already being arrested for something else, or just two more power tripping cops ignoring the rights of a citizen.

Scruffy doesn't recall reading that she was detained for jaywalking. Scruffy will side with her.

On another note, a jaywalking charge is BS in its own right.

Also, this.

The barely high school educated, power tripping cop probably gets off to picking fights with people weaker than him. Gotta make up time for all the times he was picked on in HS.

And before anyone asks, Scruffy has never had a run in with police. He hasn't even gotten a speeding ticket.

when you get pulled over in Kenner the officer asks for the IDs of everyone in the car. I told an officer I didn't have to show ID, and I was given a lot of shite for it.

I believe if she would have given the police 60 polite seconds of her life she would have been on her way. She didn’t and spent no telling how much time in custody. Pick your battles better than this lady did.

When being pursued aggressively, most people's fight-or-flight instinct kicks in. If this girl were really jogging with headphones and grabbed by the cop, do you really expect her to have been completely calm and collected?

When living in Houston, I once had a constable stop me, while I was exercising, so that he could merely ask for ID. I wasn't jay-walking or breaking any other laws. He gave me shite for a few minutes about not having my ID (who wants to carry that shite around while exercising anyway) and then let me go. Ugh...

good friend of mine has a handicap plate - was parked at store the other day - young cop walks up to window and starts questioning him. My buddy goes off on this young kid - told him if he would have done his f'n job and just walked around and looked at license plate he wouldn't have had to even talk to him - then my buddy sees chief of police in town and tells him to put a leash on his young cops. LOL

of course we knew the chief of police in high school (before he dropped out in 10th grade) and he was an idiot.

Stories like these are the very reason why people should not trust the government. What do you think that's cop reaction would be in a SHTF senario?
