If you're minding your own business and someone grabs you by the arm, you're probably not going to react kindly no matter who it is.

kind of funny how all of these types of stories begin with the pedestrian not being cooperative or being a smart arse. I'm not condoning what some of these cops do, but I imagine that 9 times out of 10, if you just showed them some respect, these situations wouldn't escalate like they tend to do.

The video doesn't show what caused her detainment. One would have to assume she wasn't hooked for jaywalking and not producing an ID.

Ding ding ding. Just because you're wearing a pig costume doesn't mean you are owed any more respect than any other stranger.

Do you automatically respect random people walking on the street? If not, then why would you automatically respect some cop?

Dude, she had her headphones on, the first time she knew about the cops was when they grabbed her.

someone posted this story on facebook earlier and I'm trying to link the source, but that story talked about how they were trying to get her attention and she wouldn't stop because she had her headphones on. The officer jogged after her and grabbed her arm to get her attention. After they got her attention, she continued to be uncooperative. when asked to provide her name, she refused and was not carrying any ID.

Again, I'm not necessarily condoning what the cops did, but why be so belligerent? just give them your name and move on with your life.

I think it's fair to say there is a lack if emphasis ( at best) on citizens rights at all levels of LE. This sort of thing is growing commonplace in our society. It's part if the trending militarization of police forces.

None of which are crimes. Did they have reasonable suspicion that she committed a crime? If not, they have no right to detain her, and she has no obligation to provide ID or even speak with them.

This...I get that cops suck sometimes but damn...cooperate. Your first reaction should be to find out what they want not to yell and scream.

We simply don't know. If it turns out this was all because she jay walked I believe they were way out of line. I am not so sure that is all she did, however, because the video does not show it and all we have to go on is a story printed in a school newspaper.

They were standing there ticketing all day for this. "pedestrian safety"...they have been doing this all over town. They stay in one lazy arse spot and ticket everyone for the same thing. She was jay walking and that's why they grabbed her, then she started screaming.

Jay walking and failure to produce an id?
Whew. Well it's a good thing Austin PD was tackling the tough crimes of the mean streets that day!!

That's probably what the German Jews said right after Hitler seized power.

This is the frickin United States of America. Cops can't go around asking people for ID just because. In the State of LA, and many others, I can walk down the street with an AR-15 slung across my back and I still don't have to give them ID.

Oh, of course. If they arrested everyone in Texas for that, nothing would ever get built.

This. Our rights are eroding because people allow it.
