Did you take the one that 83% of people failed?

We lost close to 40% total washouts from my Troop.

And were you a non-combat veterinarian?

No, I was a Cavalry Scout at the time which is combat arms. Later on I went to a MOS school at changed my MOS to 19 Kilo, M1 Abrams crew member.

That's sweet.

When I went through basic at Ft. Benning (a long time ago), doing a 12 mile road march with a full combat load was a MINIMUM requirement to get the blue cord.

Yeah, you have no idea what she even completed.

They didn't lower anything. Everyone that earns the EFMB has to do a 12 mile road march in 3 Hours

I was speaking in gereral in response to the thread last week about a bill being voted on to lower the standards across the board for the Marine Corps to make it easier for women to have access to fight on the front lines.

It's not the 12 miles that sucks. It's the 5 days of testing before the ruck march, the lack of sleep and general all around exhausted feeling from actually making it to the road march portion of the EFMB that sucks.

Exactly how much sleep deprivation are we talking? Hell week at BUD/S where you only get about 3-4 hrs over the course of 5.5 days or do you get to sleep every night?

You'll never have a clue about the relief felt when finishing the ruck march during the EFMB if you've never been around it or tried it. It's the last thing to do in the entire process. The fact that she made it means she can wear the badge and never go through that again. It might have been the last thing she needs to help her get promoted. You never know, it might have been her 3rd or 4th time trying to get it. (The average attempts at getting the badge is 3 time.) It's that hard to get.

If you fail one portion of all those tests, you're kicked out. Tough luck, wait till next year,

I can promise you as someone who went through the 13 weeks of unrelenting pure hell that was the US Army Cavalry Scout school in the 80's, I know the relief she felt and then some.

If that's true, then it's a damn shame the lack of overall fitness the Army shows. That's a 15 min pace for 12 miles, that should be nothing for anyone in even decent shape.

It said earning the badge culminates in that 12 mile hike while carrying a 70 pound pack and a rifle. If it was just the hike I would have to think way more than 17% could pass, unless it was uphill a lot of the way or through mountainous terrain. Either way she did something 83% of troops fail at.

that's nothing compared to what we had to do in the desert, half the time the electricity in our hooch would go out making us have to drink warm beer, air conditioners didn't cool worth a damn, forget about ever getting any room service, it was hell

Did 83% of the people fail it?

Were you a non-combat veterinarian?

No, that was in addition to a bunch of other grueling shite I went through for approximately 15 weeks. My basic company platoon was made up of all men in their late teens early 20's and no, the vast majority of us passed. I only remember one or two guys washing out.

No, I was not a "non-combat veterinarian," whatever the frick that is. Is there a "combat veterinarian?" If so, I never ran across any of them back in my day.

From what I remember, we probably got 4 hours a night. But we're not talking about people that are at the same fitness level as Navy SEAL Operators.

One of my wife's best friends who lives in San Diego is dating a guy that just passed BUDS. We are going to a lakehouse with them near there soon.

I can't wait to meet him, I don't know any SEALS personally.

He's going to get so annoyed with my questions

Actually, I do, at least as far as the road march is concerned, and because I do, I can honestly say it is not worth the big deal that some of you seem to think that it is.

It was an adjective I used to get my point across of "who gives a frick she takes care of dogs"
