Don't know what the standard is nowadays, but when I went through 19Deta OSUT (basic training) in 1988, we had to do a 5, 10, and finally 20 mile road March to graduate.

Lol she's a veterinarian doing this for the accomplishment.

Good for her.

Move along.

I'm not buying that, unless the standards have gone way down. We did a 30k in basic training.

I'll defer to your experience. Marching isn't our thing. 12 miles with a 70lb ruck (if accurate) seems like a decent feat.

The fact that she's struggling to walk 12 miles is fricking pathetic

It's not the 12 miles that sucks. It's the 5 days of testing before the ruck march, the lack of sleep and general all around exhausted feeling from actually making it to the road march portion of the EFMB that sucks.

why lowering the standards for women participation in the military

They didn't lower anything. Everyone that earns the EFMB has to do a 12 mile road march in 3 Hours.

youre too ignorant and stupid to realize how shitty this makes women look and how undeserving they are.

The pass rate for the EFMB is somewhere between 10-20%. I tried it in the mid 90's. We started with 100+ people going out for it. Only 12 or so actually earned it.

While many soldiers have earned the badge, not many get to the point where they say "frick it, I'm crawling the last 100 feet to pass this damn test."

A 12 mile ruck isn't very impressive.

So what happens when its wartime and at the end of that 12 mile road March the finish line is better known as the front line??

Soldiers have someone tough to fix up their bomb dogs!!! I don't understand why y'all are acting like this chick just pissed in your cheerios. She's obviously smart and tough. She's one of the good ones. Y'all are like a bunch of little girls looking for something to bitch about.

If that's true, then it's a damn shame the lack of overall fitness the Army shows. That's a 15 min pace for 12 miles, that should be nothing for anyone in even decent shape.

Did everyone miss the part where it says the trial culminates in a 12 mile march? There was other shite prior to the march she had to do.

Treat a penetrating chest wound
Perform needle chest decompression
Treat an open abdominal wound
Treat a casualty with an open head injury
Immobilize a suspected fracture of the arm
Treat eye lacerations/contusions/extrusions
Medical and Casualty Evacuation Tasks
Evacuate a casualty using a SKED litter and litter carries
Evacuate casualties using one- or two-person carries or drags
Extricate a casualty from a vehicle
Establish a helicopter landing point
Load casualties onto a helicopter, ground evacuation platform, and two nonstandard vehicles

Decontaminate self with chemical decon kits
Protect self from CBRN injury or contamination with JSLIST gear

This makes sense. No way a standalone 12 mile ruck would have a 1 in 5 pass rate. We used to do that every Thursday for Sergeant time training.

This is what the internet has contributed to society. A bunch of slapdicks making fun of an Army veterinarian for passing something they couldn't even dream of doing. There's so much more that she went through than "just a 12 mile ruck".

Hey, bears are pretty powerful creatures. I'd say a human being doing the bear minimum is pretty impressive.

I'm pretty sure they also have to take an APFT and the written test also. The written test sucked.

Not really. Any basic trainee buck private has (or had) to do that and more just to keep from being reprocessed back to the beginning or shipped home. Like I said above, back in my day we had to do three successively longer road marches of first 5, then 10, and finally 20 miles. All in full combat gear and we did it in the middle of summer, including spells where we had to don full MOPP Level IV gear. And just to show out, our drill sgts. did it with things like rucksacks full of rocks.
