I remember one of the most brutal aspects of my time at Ft. Knox was the almost total isolation from the "real" world. Almost until the last week of my 13 weeks there, the closest we got to normal life was the little PX down the block. There was a bowling alley at the bottom of the hill not far from us that we'd get little glimpses of off in the distance every now and then but that was it. No radio, no TV. Our only connection to the outside was mail call and Sunday afternoon phone calls at the pay phones down at the corner of the block.

Yes, I was there in 90 and we didn't get to see anything until we went to that tiny PX in week 8 or 10. We hit that bowling alley after graduation and hammered some beers during the 3-4 hours we had free after graduation.

I didn't think they had any females at Ft. Knox?

70 pounds? That's no big deal. Hell, I've got people that can load that into the jet for me in 2, 3 minutes tops.

I think in my friends efmb class they had 38 graduates out of I want to say 160 candidates. Which is where I came up with the 25% number.

I also remember working at our mstc at ft. Stewart helping other medics train up on the medical tasks. The standards graded for efmb and what you train for are similar for a few things but a lot different for other procedures. This is also where a lot of medics fail.

I hear the land nav is now a pain in the arse for efmb. At least it is for ft. Stewart

EFMB

The EFMB is much more than a 12 mile ruck that is just the culmination.

Hell, i had my leave papers in pocket and headed straight for the bus station after graduation.

Where we were at didn't have any females other than the old Korean ladies at the mess hall. I was in the Disney Barracks at the Armor School. Now on the other side of base, they had a regular training brigade that did basic training for combat support MOS's. Privates would go through like 8 weeks of basic before going elsewhere for their AIT. I'm not 100% sure but I think there were female privates there.

Aside from those here that would be on the malingerers platoon making comments about the CPT, the EFMB is no joke. 12 mile ruck after several days in the lanes and very little sleep just sucks. We used to conduct a 3 month train-up for the EFMB and the candidates had to pass a 14-miler in 4 hours before they were eligible to go to the real thing. Even then it was about 75% pass from our group.

I just tried to find a quick picture to show my impression of what a fighter pilot would think about a 12 mile hike with a 70 pound pack; I didn't pay attention to the particulars.
