If your office extension is 91, better hope you don't have a shiver when you press the "1" button.

Recently actually.

Driving north bound on 95 in a rain storm.

Saw a huge wave of water across the median and saw what looked like a car crashing into the median going north in the southbound lane.

TWe were worried so we called 911. Told them we couldn't stop due to traffic and storm. Told them the location. They acted like they didn't believe us. We gave our names and continued on.

This is why calling 911 is too big of a hassle to worry about doing unless it directly involves you or a family member.

Not me, but my aunt fell asleep one night while listening to her long-winded friend yaking on the phone. My aunt's friend finally realized she was talking to herself. thought my aunt had a stroke or something and called 911. My aunt woke up to EMS beating on her front door. true story

More than I probably should have to between work, gun shots in the neighborhood and one attempted breakin.

Once when I was in a wreck. Didn't know the local number to the police (travelling).

Another time when someone had a heart attack at work. Granted that was really just calling our dispatcher who stayed on the line with 911. Only time I felt helpless waiting for help to arrive. Luckily others in the room were better in the situation and kept their wits. Used a defibrillator to revive him before ems showed up. I remember getting the defibrillator, but being lost on how to use it. Luckily others had clearer heads in the situation.

I can't even imagine the job of an Emt. Showing up at only emergency situations. I'm glad there are people who feel called to those positions bc I could not do it.

It's a crapshoot as to whether a 911 call is a bonafide emergency situation.

Walked outside to feed dogs and next thing I know paramedics pulling in the driveway. 10 month old inside had a seizure from fever spiking too fast. All ended up ok after trip to ER.

I've called 3 times that I can remember...scariest one was in Thousand Oaks CA...riding down freeway about 11pm...see pretty big brush fire very close to the road...I called continually for 20 minutes...stopped when I got home...the number was busy for 20 minutes!!! scared the crap out of me to think you could need some help and not be able to get thru...I couldn't believe it.

Yes, twice. It is funny how detached and unemotional the 911 operators can seem. I know that they have to act that way. It is just admirable.

Twice. I was 6 the first time and there was a huge spider in the kitchen. Parents weren't happy.

Second time I was trying to dial out to call a customer at work and had to press 1 before the area code. Pressed it twice on accident and I wasn't paying attention. They heard myself and another employee yelling at each other and sent 2 units for a fight in progress. Boss wasn't happy that time.
