Yes. You have to get out and live in other places to be able to make a true and honest comparison. If not you're just lying to yourself.

Truth.
I could absolutely live in the New Braunfels/San Marcos area or

Monument/Palmer Lake, Co.(15 minutes north of Air Force Academy).

My two best buds live there and I've visited enough to know I wouldn't mind living there. They are much better than Dallas or Natchez.

But I still wouldn't unless I had to move to Denver/Co Springs or Austin/San Antonio area for work.

I could make just about anywhere work within reason and be happy. It's just my personality I guess

I travel Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and a little bit of Texas for work and I see plenty we are behind on in comparison. With that said, Louisiana is home and I am always glad to get back. I have thought about retiring some day to north ark or somewhere in Texas, but when it comes time I’ll probably stay put.

Couer d'Alene, Idaho seems to need some Louisiana gentrification.

I know alot of native New Orleanians who still try to lean on charm and culture as big draws of the once unique city. Why? When you go other places, do you find yourself thinking "I could live here."

I love New Orleans and I live in Lakeview. There are almost unlimited great restaurants to try, which my wife and I do regularly. I enjoy the big city feel, great downtown, and the great festivals. I love Mardi Gras, since I have family in great neighborhoods steps away from the route. Lots of fun. Took a ride in Endymion this year. Great experience. I think I’ll do it again. Really like the people here too. They don’t seem to worry about places they don’t live in. Pretty cool.

I cannot stress this enough. I don't come home nearly as much as I used to. Every trip back was always eagerness to be back and to see family / friends which would slowly give way to seeing / experiencing things that reminded me of why I left. With each passing trip, the process seemed to take less time. After this last trip I told folks, "if y'all want to see me, planes fly west."

Nope, most are too ignorant and try find everything wrong with other places to justify why they’re staying in Louisiana.

And why would staying in Louisiana be ignorant? Why do people care about where others choose to live?

I’m Louisiana born and raised and this year is when mathematically I have lived longer outside of Louisiana than in it. And the gap between those two numbers will only widen.

I live in Nevada now (not far from Vegas) and I absolutely love it out here. Weather is good 9 months per year, infrastructure is relatively new, smooth roads and construction gets finished.

Whenever I’m back in LA, extended family that have never left the state ask me “so do ya still like it out there?” And I respond “It’s treating me very well” and then list off the positives. They smile and nod but you can tell it doesn’t resonate.

I’m 4 hours from the beach, 4 hours from Phoenix/Sedona and 3 hours from the mountains. No complaints here. After living in the landscape out here, it will take a lot to pluck me out of the West.

I'm in Henderson and spend a good bit of time in Boulder City. I completely relate to all of this. Lord knows that Vegas has its issues (mostly becoming California East and that the orange construction cone needs to become the State Flower) but as you stated, a massive plus is being centrally located to so many nice areas close by.

Also, if you're a fellow road enthusiast, 2 of the country's best drives (Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway) are a short distance away.

It certainly helps. I’ve been gone longer than I lived there. Of course 99% of my family is still there. The traffic in BR is a nightmare and only going to get worse, everything is old and dying, flying into BR and driving to Prairieville feels like you are in a 3rd world country.

shite I have moments of clarity when I go from Little Rock to Bentonville and Little Rock isn’t even too bad. Going home to Shreveport has to be a hard pill to swallow.

Many feel it’s a dying state with demographics and opportunities giving it no hope for future success.

It’s an LSU forum, so most here have family there, have experienced better quality of life elsewhere, and want that happiness for their family. Is this controversial?

Man I’m telling you there’s something wrong with these people. Venting about Louisiana on here makes the them feel better or something. It’s not as bad as they make it seem.

I love most Louisianans I meet. They generally carry a smile on their face and are an open book. Anyways, the two things a person from Louisiana is proudest to tell you is that they’re from Louisiana and that they’re never going back. The relationship between the state and its natives has always interested me. It’s a unique love/hate situation.

I think you have to leave and live somewhere else for a bit to see how stagnant and depressing it can be upon return. I loved growing up in BR and living in NOLA, but the thought of moving back is not appealing to ME.

But depends on what YOU want ... there is nothing I miss enough that I can't get with a week long visit.
