Being in BR or NOLA these days does the job without leaving the state.

yeah it's a strawman or people telling on themselves for not going anywhere until a couple of years ago.

I've only lived out of state for a year, but I've traveled fairly extensively in the US at least. I don't know a single person that hasn't at least been to TX, MS, AL, FL.

I’ve lived in Louisiana my whole life and looking to move out. My wife is from the Dallas area. After a resent trip to visit her folks, she came back and said she’d be willing to move back in about 2-4 years. I’m hoping and praying she means that. I know how much better a quality of life we could have there compared to here.

Better schools, infrastructure, roads, jobs, much of what has already been said.

I’m Louisiana born and raised and this year is when mathematically I have lived longer outside of Louisiana than in it. And the gap between those two numbers will only widen.

I live in Nevada now (not far from Vegas) and I absolutely love it out here. Weather is good 9 months per year, infrastructure is relatively new, smooth roads and construction gets finished.

Whenever I’m back in LA, extended family that have never left the state ask me “so do ya still like it out there?” And I respond “It’s treating me very well” and then list off the positives. They smile and nod but you can tell it doesn’t resonate.

I’m 4 hours from the beach, 4 hours from Phoenix/Sedona and 3 hours from the mountains. No complaints here. After living in the landscape out here, it will take a lot to pluck me out of the West.

Only two things I love about Louisiana. LSU and the food. frick the rest of it.
Especially northern Louisiana.
Left almost four years ago for Colorado. Greatest decision ever made.

Yes the scenery is beautiful and prettier, not as corrupt, cleaner elsewhere than louisiana by far but the activities i do here (hunting, fishing, tailgating, boating) i would miss greatly

of course you know that you can do all of those things in colorado

I know alot of native New Orleanians who still try to lean on charm and culture as big draws of the once unique city. Why? When you go other places, do you find yourself thinking "I could live here."

A lot of NOLA folks have moved to Bay St Louis and Pass Christian

I have retirement property in Arkansas. It's scenic, quiet and no litter. The people are friendly and there are local restaurants to choose from. BUT as far as unique culture goes, it feels kind of like generic South. And good seafood does not exist. So I expect I will miss the food and uniqueness of Louisiana.

Do you send your kids to private school in Louisiana? Do you really drive around thinking, "man my life would be so much better if this road wasn't shitty"?

If I'm moving it's for better weather and topography, not to move to fricking Texas.

I left out the job comment, because my job isn't location specific.

More specific:

White tailed deer hunting (yes i know there are whitetails in colorado), saltwater fishing, LSU tailgating

boating you can do but i cant imagine parking the boat and swimming in snow melt lakes and rivers can be fun

Like where? Outside of the obvious shitholes (Northeast like New York, Boston, etc, all the way down to Virginia minus West VA or Left Coast ie California, Oregon, Washington), there's plenty to not like about a lot of places.

New Mexico, Airzona, Colorado, Minnesota, Illionis, Iowa are all as shitty as they get thanks to leftists nutjobs. Texas sounds great but like every major city everywhere, their cities are leftist shitholes too, and having lived there for 20 years, that real estate tax is bulltshit. The coast in Mississippi or Alabama might work but most of those states are no different than Louisiana. Tennesee & Georgia are also basically Louisiana in many ways.

So what's your go to? Florida? Arkansas? Montana?

Louisiana has its share of problems. No doubt. You live long enough in another place and you’ll start to see problems there also. Not the same extent of problems but still problems.

I will say that the gap between quality of life in Louisiana vs outside of Louisiana is vastly exaggerated. It’s not that bad of a place to live especially if you have some money.

If you can afford a combination of the following: private school, a nice gated/secluded community, LSU/Saints tickets, a boat, and a fishing/hunting camp it’s honestly not the worst place to be. The food is second to none, the lifestyle, the overall architecture and the way homes are built is even unique. It’s not a good place to raise kids? I know plenty that turned out fine. It’s about parenting. It’s not the state of Louisiana’s responsibility to raise your kids. Do your part at home and the rest will take care of itself.

Like I said there’s plenty of problems but the magnitude of the problems isn’t as far off from other places as people lead you to believe.

One of the problems with ranking an entire state collectively is that quality of life is fairly localized. There are nice areas in Louisiana (and every other state).

If you live in Mandeville, the fact that Ferriday is a shithole doesn't really impact your life.

idk i’ve never been on vacation and been like “oh my life would be so much better here”

maybe i’d save money if my kid could go to a good public school but besides that.

LSU doesn’t play in Dallas every other weekend and the Po Boy place i’ve been going to my entire life isn’t in Denver.

Couldn’t have said it any better. All the people ripping on Louisiana have never spent any time in the nice pockets.

Be as it may, there unfortunately aren’t a lot of these nice pockets. more towns are like Feriday than they are like Mandeville.

It honestly chaps my arse when Texans who’s scope on Louisiana is very limited like to shite on it as if they know what they’re talking about. My deal is you have a right to shite on Louisiana if you’re from there or lived there for a long period of time. Otherwise you don’t really know.
