That’s the thing about living outside of Louisiana in a metro area that just isn’t for me. The people here suck. They’re phony and that “open book” persona just doesn’t exist. Too many transplants from all over mostly from other metro areas.

You wave at someone in your neighborhood and they look at you like you’re crazy.

i'm with you.

it's probably because i've lived in a few different parts of the country and in different settings (rural, suburban, and urban), but i think most places are far more similar than different when it comes to actual daily life, especially adjusted for income.

I found that the transplants i worked with in dfw weren't phony.... they were just remarkably boring people.

Are you talking about New Orleans? Are you talking about the entire state?

Boring is another great word to describe them. rural Texas and metro Texas might as well be two different states. It’s two different worlds.

This is so tiresome. Maybe a message board dedicated to chatting about anything is not the place for you.

Once took my lead software engr to a weeks technical convention in San Diego. A month later he gave two weeks notice and moved there for a new job. Single guy with few family members left in Nola.

It’s all what you value in life and family is a huge anchor in our culture. Travel a lot or live elsewhere for a few years in a good area out of State and you’ll see the difference.

Finished my career in Houston and moved back home retired to be close to our grandkids. If not for them we’d still be in the Woodlands or out in the hill country west of Austin.

The amount of poverty in Louisiana with little to no chance to ever improve is simply astounding. We also have politicians entering that field solely as an opportunity to get rich.

Widespread, diversified job opportunities here just don’t exist any longer since the oil industry’s managerial and engineering class mostly left for Houston.

An economy based on tourism, gambling and billboard lawyers isn’t going anywhere for the vast majority of our population.

My parents always said that. Now, even with their grandkid out of state, their asses are still parked in NOLA.

Baffles me.

I’ve long said that the real problem with people in BR for example in not getting enraged and demanding something is done about the conditions that plague the city is that too few of them ever leave, and of those who do, few of them ever leave to visit other areas outside of the region they are familiar with. When people do however, and especially for an extended amount of time, it’s inevitable that upon returning the deplorable conditions of the area are highlighted to where you cannot ignore it, and it’s quite depressing, until they get back into the swing of things and forget and ignore it again.

I love most Louisianans I meet. They generally carry a smile on their face and are an open book. Anyways, the two things a person from Louisiana is proudest to tell you is that they’re from Louisiana and that they’re never going back. The relationship between the state and its natives has always interested me. It’s a unique love/hate situation.

The people and food (culture) are the best the US has to offer. That’s the hardest part about leaving.

I'd suspect most of the younger crowd would be inclined to think this way.

At the end of the day, all of the bad things in Louisiana boil down to crime (criminals) and corruption. All of that is the work of very bad people. I believe things can be better- but heavy-handed changes would be mandatory in order to make it happen.....

Exactly how does this impact your daily life? There’s haves and have nots in the world. Houston has plenty of poverty also.

A family living in St Tammany Parish is no different than a family living in The Woodlands/Katy/Cypress etc.

I miss those things. But I found other hobbies. And I could easily still do those things here, I'd just have to invest more into it since I wouldn't have family land access and such. But my life is much nicer living where I do now. I've said this a few times. My son was 3 months old when we moved to Texas. He's nearly 10 and when we go back to visit Louisiana, he always asks why it's so dirty.

Yes, sometimes when I take a vacay with the family to a different, better state, I get depressed having to come back.

It’s not this. The comment is geared towards someone being ignorant for not moving from the state. There’s many ways to have overall happiness and success in Louisiana even if it’s less abundant than other states. Wanting to be close or near family while making a good living isn’t ignorant. It just makes their priorities different than yours.

I stayed a couple days in Lake Charles so my wife could visit family when we went down for the LSU games at Minute Maid. I was counting down the days until we could leave that dump and get back home.

Before we moved to Tennessee we lived in The Woodlands and will be moving back there so my wife can be closer to her family. I’m really hoping they will come to Texas for holidays so we don’t have to go to Lake Charles. I was born and raised there but I just can’t stand being there any more than I need to.

I can only speak for Lake Charles and Baton Rouge bc that’s the only places I have lived in Louisiana, but like I tell everyone. There are better places to live and there are worse places. As much as I despise LC living in Killeen, TX sucked way more. But there are also places that just leave you in awe and thinking, “I can’t believe people choose to live in Louisiana vs here.”

You can be proud to be from Louisiana but also not want to live there or raise your family there. I wouldn’t mind going back to visit friends in Lafayette, going to a Saints game, or hitting up Alex Box on a Friday night, but after a night or two I’m ready to get out.

Where did he move from? What aspect of his quality of life has increased? Genuinely curious.

ETA: I'm definitely not a huge Louisiana defender, but if I'm looking for quality of life improvements, I don't think I'm getting a big enough change moving from Lafayette to Hoover.

Baton Rouge. He lives in the mountain brook area. Ive gone and visited a few times. It's safe. There isn't trash everywhere. The schools are good. It is a very tight knit community. It's overall just a beautiful place.

I used to hate all of the people on here who moved to Texas and then shat all over Louisiana...but then I moved to Texas and realized they were 100% right.

You are allowed to talk shite if you’re from Louisiana or lived there 4 or more years. I don’t tolerate Texans slandering Louisiana because they think they know the state when they don’t. You don’t know a state because you passed through on the interstate and interacted with people at a gas station.

I always fire back with Texas flaws because believe it or not they exist.
