Neither is Delgado. He called St. George proponents terrorists.

I don't know where Smokey stands on the issue, but I believe he is against.

Seems counter-intuitive that any serious mayor-president candidate would be FOR St. George.

It does when one remembers that the mayor is also the Parish President. If St. George becomes a thing and creates a successful school district that reverses the middle class exodus out of the parish to Ascension and Livingston, then it would mean more tax revenue for the city/parish government.

Yesterday, EBR Councilman John Delgado called supporters of the movement for St. George, terrorists.

The comment was made on Facebook after Councilman Ryan Heck publicly thanked Rep. Steve Carter, Rep. Dalton Honore, and Sen. Bodi White for working together on education reform.

Delgado’s first comment, which has since been deleted, referenced the “polish a turd all you want but it’s still a turd” cliché.

When Heck asked Delgado what he was referring to as a “turd”, Delgado’s reply was “I’m saying that thanking Norman Browning and his ilk for any changes that occur to our education system is like thanking Al Qaeda for improving our airport security measures. I don’t thank people who try to destroy our community. I condemn them for the terrorists that they are.

Like I said, frick him. I'll vote for whoever runs against him.

It wouldn't.

Why not? It worked for Central and Zachary.

I can't forgive Smokey for trying to ban food trucks by passing an ordinance when he is the owner of George's.
His proposed ordinance would NOT have banned food trucks.

It would only have required the food truck operator get a property owner's written permission prior to parking the truck on the owner's property, which, IMO, was a reasonable requirement.

The ordinance was a result of disputes between property owners in downtown Baton Rouge and the food truck operators who would just park anywhere without asking for permission to park on an owner's property.

Smokey's opponent (John Delgado) in the councilman election made up the lie about the ordinance "banning all food trucks."

I can see his point of view. It's kind of undercutting someone's business to pull right in front of it and sell a very similar product.

It's total bullshite for those trucks to pull up to an area right in the middle of a bunch of restaurants and start selling food. I completely understand his position. FWIW there isnt any room for a food truck in front of georges though they did do a roundup behind chelseas once or twice.

People already live there, the money is already coming in from the unincorporated areas.

Regardless, the City of St. George isn't going to happen.

How so?

Assuming they are legally parked and have their permits.

The St. George area is already saturated. EBR is already the recipient of the parish property and sales taxes for the area.

I still believe the EBR School System needs to be split up into 4 to 5 smaller more neighborhood-oriented districts. With the ability for the residents in those districts to levy taxes on themselves to support any improvements/growth.

I'm all for the food trucks. Great stepping stone for under funded, badass chefs to get their own brick and mortar restaurant. Look at other cities, this happens a lot.

I'm afraid the mayoral options aren't good. If it ends up being Delgado vs. BLM obsessed democratic candidate vs. hyper-conservative republican I might end up voting Delgado and then leave the voting booth feeling really dirty about myself as I crawl into a cold shower and cry.

Sharon isn't like this. FWIW.

There's also a report out in the Advocate that Marty Malley is considering running.
