They should have a checklist of kids picked up.

As someone just mentioned my kids went to a place with a check in/out system. One look at that and they would know there's 1 kid left to be picked up.

I don't have a kid, but I assumed it's standard practice to have some form of sign in/sign out sheet at these day cares.

As in, it would raise alarm bells if this DIDNT take place.

Is that a faulty assumption?

Some places are really bad at it. The place we were at before was supposed to have someone signing us out everyday. But I don't think they kept track. They let the individual teachers take care of it. As an infant, my son had a sheet that we got every day saying what he ate, diaper changes, etc. So if they were left with any sheets obviously the kid wasn't picked up yet. Not until we moved to a different daycare did we realize how much more stringent they could have been. I've got to use a passcode to get in the building, scan my finger, check out my son in front of the directors office, and get the sheet from his "teacher". On more than one occasion I've been asked for my ID even after fingerprints because they don't recognize me (wife usually picks him up). I don't think I could let him go with anything less after hearing crazy things that happen at some of these places.

I'll never bring him somewhere without a check in/out system similar to that.

Seriously? Are those the insane precautions that people take these days?

I went to daycare all the way through 12 years old, and there was never an issue.

Why are parents so paranoid all the time?

This is why check in/check out works.

Because idiots mistake kids for dolls and leave them alone in a locked up daycare.

Serious? There are not enough abduction/rape/murder stories our there to make you realize this isn't the world we grew up in?

When we were taking my daughter to daycare, they had a computer with a thumb print reader for anyone checking in and checking out a kid.
