Why are parents so paranoid all the time?

It just comes with the territory, dude. My son was born 10 weeks early so I guess it just got ingrained into me from the start. I didn't sleep for days at a time in the early months because I was scared of SIDS 24/7.

Parents just worry about their kids, especially when they are small. One bad fall can change everything. When they start walking they can get into serious trouble/harm.

Where do you live?? I could understand in a town of 10,000 where everyone knows everyone that things may be a little relaxed. But in a metro area of 4 million, I'm not leaving my kid just anywhere. Plus have you seen who work at these places. They aren't exactly Rhodes Scholars. Even at the good ones, there is still some room for improvement.

Not to mention without these precautions, anyone could walk in and take your kids, especially if the person at the desk is too busy on facebook and is only there for party money.

Just northwest here in a town called Flora, where you find lots of multimillion dollar homes/properties, a cop was arrested for molesting small children (toddlers) at his wife's daycare.

You can just never be too sure in today's world.

This is why I pay almost $4k a month for a nanny.

Are you Mrs. Les Miles? You have to be pulling in some serious cash to pay 4k per month. A lot of people don't even make that much. Holy crap.

That better be a really good nanny.

I have to scan in and sign in/out my daughter at her school. I have no problem with it and I don't see it as being paranoid. It takes like 5 extra seconds of my day. To me it just tells me that the school or daycare has its shite together.

How many kids? If it's for 2 kids, that's not that much more than what I pay in daycare currently. When I say that much more, I'm taking into account the fact that it's much more convenient to have a nanny that stays home with your kid. If it's 3 kids, then it's a damned good deal. Especially if she cleans up around the house.

The child wasn't hurt. The "rescue" wasn't "dramatic." They made an error but everything turned out alright.

You went to daycare as a 12 year old? Are you a retard?
