Why is this completely absurd? Why has the specops community embraced this training style? How do you explain the proven effectiveness of the training protocol? Why has it exploded in popularity?

Really? That is your questions? Specops don't only do crossfit. They embrace other training practices as well. The effectiveness has come into question.

Did you read that nonsense they/you believe? I wonder why a Pole vaulter or Decathlete was not mentioned in that section. Wait, I know why because it completely blows their assertion out the water.

I was also wondering, is it really a common part of crossfit workouts to do compound/olympic lifts for time?

Yes fairly common

It's very dangerous, we know.

they have some dumb movements just asking for injuries.

My main problem with it. As the OP's OP alluded to, I've definitely seen it produce some fantastic results for people--but that doesn't mean that it's the only way to get results.

Fact is, getting and staying in shape is not some big mystery. Anyone can download a simple workout plan and fairly reasonable diet and see significant gains in the 4-6 week timeframe--for free. It's a matter of discipline and motivation.

Honestly, no.

Definitely not at good gyms.

But even the bad ones don't do it enough to be "common practice", and when they do it's extremely light. Like 95# snatches. Although most people who crossfit, contrary to their beliefs, do not possess the core strength and stability to do a lot of light snatches for time.

Link?

There is insufficient data to prove the effectiveness vs the damaging aspects of crossfit to say one way or the other.

Can you say "fad", bro.

This is true. Do your homework and you'll see its really simple. Not easy. But simple.

The movements are dumb, but everyone is telling me how CF didn't invent them.

They didn't invent the movements. They just took the movements already invented and added speed and lack of form.

Why do you hear anyone say that about any gym?

I don't. That's the point. It is like a disclaimer.

I don't know who invented them, and I won't discount their benefit (they do work). But they lend themselves to injuries that require pretty protracted recovery times.

And they look fricking stupid (not that that should matter ). Most Americans could improve their lot 100% by making some pretty basic changes--simple, but not necessarily easy (as B&H said).

The main reason I don't want anything to do with it is that unless you're in some rare profession/hobbby where a wide range of functional strength is needed, most people don't have need for what crossfit offers.

You want functional strength for doing x, y, or z, practice x, y, or z and it'll come. You want endurance? You want aesthetics? There are simpler, less injury prone and arguably more efficient ways to go about those.

It's an answer to a question very few people ask.

You don't think people who seek personal training screen potential trainers?

That would be pretty irresponsible of them

Well it's super popular in the military because the SOF bubbas have programs and movements that look similar. I just fricking hate fads. And most of the guys and gals who are into it are straight-up attention whores who spend 3x as much time talking about it as they do doing it.

But most of them are in pretty great shape.

I am confused. Lester Earl says it is very common. Lester Earl must go to a bad gym?
