One criticism I have of crossfit (more of a criticism of the Army) happened during my last year in the Army. There would be a weekly cf level 1 workshop that hand picked soldiers from their company could attend. Would not cost the soldiers a dime.
My understanding is that the lecture material can be advanced or too scientific for people who hadn't majored in kinesiology. At least at my installation this was a common complaint the majority of the failures had failed the written exam.
I begged to get certified (I have an ms in exercise use physiology) and my company never chose me to attend it. With that said I am unsure how many soldiers from 3rd I'd where I was at actually understood the method and the intricate techniques of snatches clean and jerks. This can be a huge problem if the majority are not learning about programming, technique, scaling etc.

Since when are snatches and clean and jerks "conventional exercising"?
This helps show that cultfitters know shite about excercise. This excercises that you think cultfit invented have been used in high schools and colleges forever. They have also been in main stream weight lifting and body building forever. Just because YOU never did them before doesn't mean shite. All not means is you didn't play sports when you were young and decided to workout once you got older and cultfitting made you feel special. Congrats

Beyond that, what would conventional exercise be? Bosu balls and calf raises? That's just a fricking nebulous term made up by the CrossFit haters.
So excercises that have been proven to work for 100 years now isn't normal because it's not in cultfit? Again thanks for proving you know shite about working out.

Is this what this is all about and you're jealous and butthurt about it?
If you read my first post and disagree bring up those points and I'll be glad to discuss them with you. To throw out teenage statements only shows why you are a cultfitter..Thanks for making this so easy. As in any cult blind faith is the most important thing. You definitely fit that mold greatly.

I've been crossfitting for a few months simply because I was just bored with going to 24hr fitness everyday and working chest.....bis......tris.......back.......and so on and so forth.
I enjoy it but I'll probably change to something else eventually.

Scruffy has only been working out for a couple months, but he realized that the best way to beat the boredom and monotony is audiobooks.
Those things are the bomb.

Snatch/clean and jerk were probably in the first Olympics.

. I have good strength and cardio. 550 deadlift, 405 squat, 215 snatch, 285 C&J. 5:30 mile, pretty good metcon times. And I did gain all this from crossfit- so there is good. 3 years ago I was weak and fat and never imagined I would be where I am in terms of fitness. The methodology works, if used correctly.

A buddy of mine owns a "box".....what a great sales term by the way. It was an investment in a trend with several physiological advantages that backed it. Which is basically what the sales pitch was to him to start the box. Of course it has really made him some money. I've jumped in from time to time to watch for entertainment value. It truly is a collection of geeks and highschool non athletes that now feel like jocks at the age of 30. The thing I always ask him is how none of his sheepeople ask him how he got in such great shape before cultfit? He has no answer. The guy has worked out for 20 years and is phenomenal shape. All done before cultfit hit the scene. It just amazes me how gullible people are and the power of having to be apart of a group.

Probably. Being a workout fanatic will kill you.

I'm not sure what Olympic year it originated.
I believe it was the clean and press then it became clean and jerk.
This was probably Paul Anderson's time and even before that

What I don't get is somebody capable of a 285 clean and jerk only squatting 405.
At my best I could squat 435 and there is absolutely no way in hell I could clean and jerk 285. I couldnt even clean it, much less press it.
shite, I worked out with some currently prominent NFL football players who couldn't do that and they were squatting well into 500.

I started working out again a few months back and the last time I lifted weights was probably 7-8 years ago.
Going to the gym by yourself and lifting really low amounts makes you feel pretty damn self concious.
To avoid that, I always picked the times where few people were there.
Eventually got over it when I realized that no one there gave a frick.

So pay me to do crossfit....
Then if you really want to get good, go train yourself?
Is that any different than paying for any other gym membership and supplementing it with running, swimming, biking, etc?

I would love to have a workout buddy.

This is the point. If everyine was like this, as if it was just another way to working out, and not what invented workout. It would have a total different view from the outside looking in. But for people to defend it as if it's a religion only asserts the idea that its more of a cult with greater physiological benefits than physical.
