It's either surgery or ER for me. But if I have to settle for IM, then I want a sports medicine fellowship.

I loved the ER when I was a tech before I started school.

No. I get weak at the sight of live blood.

I can watch a horror film where someone gets butchered with no problem, but if I see someone giving blood I start to get white as a sheet and weak...

Having been a practicing orthopedic surgeon for 6 years now, I don't blink an eye at blood, pus, mangled bones or working 10 inches deep in someone's hip. However watching some construction guy working on top of a tall building or roof makes me nervous as hell. No way I could do that.

My mother was a nurse, so I try to always be nice to the nurses. They can make your call nights miserable if you treat them like crap. They torture some of my partners.

I've seen a body be prepared at the morgue, and I imagine it would be less gruesome than seeing a corpse being jabbed with a hollow spear in all directions at various levels, sucking out bodily fluids and sending them down the drain.

I wouldn't mind the human body aspect. I've cleaned wounds where I've seen exposed tendons, vertebrae, etc. I'm not delicate enough for that kind of work though, nor meticulous enough.

Yeah I know that game. Call to clarify orders at 2 am. Call again to clarify more orders 30 minutes later.

And yes, there are some idiot nurses and if they screw up care for your patients then by all means make a fuss if you want. Our attending peds surgeon has a list of nurses that are NOT allowed to care for his kids

I've got the stomach but not the steady hands. If I could drink coffee and smoke during surgery I'd be the best ever.

I would never go to a surgeon that attended a Caribbean school.

Or any other type of doctor. Sorry Jose. Seen waaaaaaaay too many hacks come out of foreign med schools. Have yet to meet one that is good. Would never bring one into my practice either. I also know quite a few people that attended one and wasted their money because they can't pass the boards. DO school>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Caribbean.

I really see it as a slap in the face to those who attend actual med schools.

How's that?

You must not understand how Caribbean schools work. You only come to the islands to to do basic sciences. Then if you can pass the Step 1 exam, then you go back to the US and do your rotations. So essentially I will be doing all of my rotations and training at US hospitals, the same place where the US students rotate.

I've worked with many Caribbean doctors through the years and they are some great doctors.

To each his own though.
