I'm already fricked enough when the GPS tells me to turn right in 1,000 feet. I'd probably have a panic attack trying to mentally measure out 304.8 meters on the fly.

Like many things, people here cannot adapt to change and improvement. Always too hard.

We’ve tried this before, and it turned out to be such a clusterfrick that the att,mpg was abandoned. Bridges built to nowhere, etc.

Our currency is expressed in Metric Base 10, medications as well. Our international engineering and manufacturing export products are done in the metric system, otherwise you're not getting the business. Few question why they're buying a 2 liter bottle of Coke or Pepsi, we've gotten familiar with that.

Highway speed and distance are expressed in SI units, most grocery and hardware products too. I don't foresee us ever converting to the Metric System. The SI system is ingrained in our brains.

Which is unfortunate as metric units are so much easier to use and mentally convert.

At least we're in sync with Liberia and Myanmar.

for sure in engineering. back when all we had was a calculator I would convert everything to metric units. Much simpler.

Would make math a lot easier for many people out there.

I don’t think it makes the math easier, but it’s better for engineers/scientists because units are related to each other more clearly.

Cost.

Every land ownership title record/deed in every county/parish would have to be changed.

I thought the U.S. military was leading the way to transitioning to the metric system in the 1960s. What happened?

Most men feel comfortable with 6 inches, and quite happy with 8 inches. But let's convert that to metric. 6 inches is 0.15 meters. And 8 inches is 0.2 meters. It's pretty clear the metric system will never catch on if your penis size always starts with a zero.

You can always convert to centimeters or millimeters if you want to sound big.

Metric system is a fad. It's on its way out. No sense in switching over now.

China and Russia like the Metric System . . . and France, too.

Do we really want to be like them?

There are two types of countries in this world

Those that use the metric system

And those that landed men on the moon

If you asked the average person how much a liter is, if they even give an answer it's because they know it's a little more than two quarts of soda.

Ask someone how many liters it takes to fill their car up... they wouldn't have a clue because it's a stupid f'ing size to measure the capacity of something the size of a fuel tank.

Metric has ml or l with nothing in common use inbetween to measure the things we commonly need to measure on a normal basis. Compared to the much more size appropriate choice of measurements in an ounce, cup, pint, quart or gallon.

Milliliters are the only primary SI measurement that is more useful than its comparable customary unit, and that's likely due to measurement of volume of liquids in such precise amounts is a very recent development. Liters are too big for cooking, and not big enough for bulk liquids. Millimeters are too big for machining and too small to measure something that isn't machined. Centimeters are too small to measure mid-range objects, and meters are too long to measure anything not already measured in yards.

People saying the math is easier in metric don't realize that everything they want to measure is going to take a larger number of figures to accurately describe. The CONVERSIONS are easier in metric, but when your measurements are 3.65m x 2.44m, do the math on that vs. 12'x8'. And a lot of metric stuff is still based on the old imperial dimensions.

How many teaspoons in a gallon? The British/US systems are difficult to use, the metric system is much easier.
