ot quite, I tried it with -40, came out to -56

-40x2 = -80
-80 - 10% = -72
-72 + 32 = -40

Never...although I wish we would. On the flip side, frick using Celsius for temps. When 5 is cold, 15 is chilly, 25 is nice, and 35 is hot, your system sucks. Fahrenheit is much better imho.

Hopefully never. Our system is humanist. It’s based on the size of body parts, the space between joints, the length of a stride, etc. Metric is without any reference to the natural world. It’s souless. Typical Eurotrash filth.

I was a co-op at a Department of Energy facility in the early 1990's. There was a sign from the late 60's at one of the turnstiles that said "Know your metric system...it's coming soon". They tore down the portal about 20 years ago, and all of the craft personnel still use U.S. customary (imperial) units.

I’m fine with:

Keeping miles
Keeping football yards
Keeping pounds

I would not mind getting rid of sae sockets for metric (or smaller than an inch measurements)

I’m not a plant manager or a mechanic.

What calculation do you think you could reliably perform in your head faster? Converting miles to inches or converting km to cm?

The answer to that is the downfall for the metric system... it doesn't matter how many cm are in a km, because you would never naturally measure anything using either units, and certainly almost never in both.

Both units are arbitrary and don't correspond to any natural measuring stick. Humans have used representative measurements since the dawn of humanity, it's what we do. It's why Americans measure things in football fields and even alligators before using the metric system.

Metric system = baseless, arbitrary units for those who are bad at math (but overwhelmingly forced to be used upon people who are good at math anyway).

FWIW, they standardized conversions between US customary units and metric, so we are "metric" in a sense.

Never … for all our differences in this country… the imperial system still is basically the only thing holding this country together…

This quantity and packaging of coke is said to be invented by Rickie Brown Lee… Miami downtown lawyers needed more than a gram but thought a quarter was just too much at one time… so along comes the 8ball (3.5g or 1/8 of a ounce)… Mr. Lee of Liberty City in Miami was a true American hero

It's based on light and particles. It has its value.

The imperial system is far superior than the metric system in many ways. The simplest example is a meter can only be divided by 2 and 5. The imperial system can be divided by 2,3,4, and 6. The are many many purely American reasons why we need to keep the imperial system. Do your own homework why.
